Help needed please, o2 broadband is banning me from websites!

Hi folks, I am quite clued up with pc knowledge etc, but this prob has got me & o2 broadband completely lost!
We used to use Virgin media as our internet service provider but we changed to o2 earlier this year, since then we have been banned from 4 websites before we have even logged in due to our IP address, I have contacted o2 BB & they have tried all sorts of things (like re-setting the router etc) but to no avail, o2 have stated that as I have a dynamic IP address, this IP address could have belonged to a former o2 customer who was banned from these websites, but they do not know how to fix this issue!
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thnak-you.

I think o2 do know how to fix this, surely all thats needed is a new ip addy which they can give , if they fail to do this , you're not gettin the service you pay for and need to terminate your BB with them.

    I have had issues with o2 cs 1st line support:rolleyes: 2nd line support:rolleyes: , 9 times out of 10 its there problem:D

if you have IP addresses assigned via DHCP (dynamically), it should just be a case of rebooting the router to get a new DHCP lease (ie a new ip address)

I'm with O2 and also have a dynamic IP address but my IP address has never changed, that is until I used my own router instead of the O2 Wireless Box.

So my own router always gets one IP address and the O2 router always gets the original IP address - however many times I swap them round.
Maybe O2's dynamic IP addresses are loosely tied to the router's MAC address?

So if you had a spare (compatible) router laying around you could try using that to see if you get a new IP address. Failing that there are various proxy sites (proxy.org) that you could use to access the blocked sites - BUT - I wouldn't use a proxy like this if you'll be entering any personal or financial information.

Having said all that, you shouldn't need to do any of that - I think this is a problem that O2 could/should solve by simply changing your IP address.

    Good luck.

Which sites are 'banned'? Have you tried through https://www.freeproxyserver.net

If you are with O2 LLU then -as already said- pop in another router to see what happens.

Resetting your router ain't gonna do much. O2 help is like most ISP helplines they don't know what an IP address is. It'll have to go to a different level of customer care if the problem isn't solved.

Mind and check your IP too http://network-tools.com (those set of numbers is your IPA) Keep a note of it so you can use it as a reference if speaking to anyone @ O2.

Also see the O2 forum http://forum.o2.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=14 Search before you post.

    1) What web sites? List them.

    2) What do you mean by "banned"?

    3) What have the web site operators said?

    4) Run "cmd" to get a command prompt and run the following, with https://www.google.co.uk as an example:

    ping https://www.google.co.uk
    tracert https://www.google.co.uk
    nslookup https://www.google.co.uk

    5) Does eBay work reliably? eBay is (or definitely used to be) a site which had a problem when the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) on the router or your PC was set incorrectly.

We would need the answers to the above.

I'm pretty sure O2 access had a dynamic IP address...LLU have 'sticky' dynamic addresses, which, once issued 'stick' to the MAC of the router being used.
    insist on a new IP
