indemnity claim

I have put an indemnity claim in with barclays, they say they will refund the money within 48 hours

i was just wondering, they then said they will contact BT to get the refund from them, if for any reason BT wont refund this money what happens next?

BT can file a reverse indemnity claim and then we will debit you back for the funds (i.e. if you have made a claim under the direct debit guarantee that BT refute).

I am just worried that its now a case of my word against theirs, and if this money is taken out of this account again this month i wont have enough to pay other d/d's

If you cancel the direct debit then they can't touch your account can they?
You will have to pay the £4.50 fee though if you go back to quarterly billing.

they cancelled my account by an accident, so i cancelled the direct debit, they have then re-activated the direct debit (without telling me) and took £130 out of my account

Then you have due course to claim under DD Indemnity. The funds should remain with you, they will not (shouldn't be anyway) claimed back by BT. :T

Then you have due course to claim under DD Indemnity.

You mean the Direct Debit Guarantee Scheme. This is the one that protects consumers. If a DD is taken too early or for too much, the customer is guaranteed a full and immediate refuind by the bank.

The Indemnity scheme is what the bank uses internally to get the money back from the supplier.

If Barclays have said you have to wait for them to have a succesful indemity claim, you have been misled. Under the DD Guarantee Scheme, you are entitled to a full and immediate refund from the bank. Suggest you check out the link posted by never-in-doubt and get back to Barclays to get your refund straight away. Although you might have to persevere to talk to someone who knows about your rights under the DD guarantee scheme (many bank staff only seem to know about the internal indemity scheme).

Yea i rang up about the dd guarentee and i was told it would have to be done as an indemnity claime

since this has already been processed, what should i do now? still ring and get them to stop the claim and then sort out the dd guarentee?

also what difference does it make if its an indemnity claim or dd guarentee? sorry if i am being stupid
