I got one of these in order to use the self scan but now use it for everything in order to build up the points. Another bonus is the free copy of the Waitrose magazine you can pick up from the stores each month.

The only bad thing about this card is they send you pages of statements each month and their Internet banking is not very good (I blame HSBC for that who manage the card). Not sure too is their call centres are outside the UK?

Just to confirm that you need a Waitrose/JLP card to register for the quickscan system - however you don't need to use that card to pay for your shopping.
So when you go shopping, you swipe your Waitrose/JLP card to obtain the Quickcheck scanner, do your shopping, scanning as you go, then when it's time to pay you use whatever payment card you like. Can't remember the last time I used my Waitrose/JLP card for anything else, lol!

It is such a boon, especially at busy times like Easter or Christmas.

I know my local store has withdrawn the selfscan for all but Partnership / JLP Account cards, I will ask the wife to confirm what the state of play actually is. (She works there)
