Nothing you can do,
Sorry but without the new keepers section you cannot tax the car at either a post office or the DVLA
Chase the garage for it, did they tell you they had it when you purcvhased the car?. If not and its lost it will take about 6 weeks to get a replacement in the meantime you will not be able to tax the car and need to SORN it and keep it off the road or you will be liable to a fine for using it untaxed.
Thats the thing this system is now designed to make sure cars only chance hand with a V5
Did you pysically see the garage fill in the V5 for sending to Swansea or did he just put your details on a notepad, if you did not see the V5 maybe he bought it without and is still wating for it as well. But should have made this clear to you at point of purchase.Over 100k miles of Electric Motoring and rising,0 -
Firstly, I would contact the garage and ask them for it.
Secondly, cos I don't have a clue....... how about calling the DVLA?

Ring DVLA to see if there is a current keeper on record for the vehicle. If there isn't then you can tax it at your nearest DVLA Office. You will need to pay £25 for a new V5C, but can get tax over counter.
If there is a keeper though you cannot tax it until you receive V5C. So in that case chase dealer or send off a V62 form yourself with the £25 ( downloadable from www.direct.gov.uk/motoring) to get the V5C. And keep car off road in meantime.

Probably a dim question, but would the op actually get the fine? The car has not yet been reg in their name.
I have seen posts on mse where people have sold a car and sent off their bit of the log book, only to find the DVLA have not actioned it and the car has remained in their name. Then when a fine has come through, people have said it's down to the person selling to check with DVLA and ensure it has been reg in the buyers name.0 -

If they are stopped by Police then they could get an on-the-spot fine.
The fines that you are refering to are generally sent out 2 calender months after the tax expires, if the new keeper's details have updated during this time, and they were keeper at time of expiry then fine would be posted out to new keeper. Change of keeper takes 2-4weeks if V5C is present, 3-6 weeks if V62 is completed. So yes OP could get fined.

ThanksGenie

I rang DVLA to see if my log book was being processed and the woman on the phone wouldnt help me she wouldnt even have a quick look on the pc to see if she could give me any info miserable sod
so i then rang the garage and he said he would get the person that deals with the log books to give us a ring this morning so just waiting now :rolleyes:0 -
Scorpiolady, they should have taken details and checked to see if V5C had processed. 2 weeks is plenty of time for V5C to process (although it does takes up to 4weeks). Ring again and hopefully you will get a more helpful clerk!

we didnt receive the phone call so my husband phoned the garage to be told the person who deals with this (theresa) has gone home, so we wait another day, still no call so hubby rings them again and theresa said shes done it, today i rang DVLA and got a nice person willing to help this time and she said theres no details on her system so i rang the garage and he gave me another excuse that theresa has gone home because her daughter was ill, well i was quite rude to him and said thats all ive had off you is excuses, he said he would get theresa to call me in the morning bet she don't , looks like i'm going to have to fill in a V62 and pay the £25 then at least my daughter can tax the car while im away.
On the V10 it says "By law you (as the seller), must hand over the V5C/2 when you sell the vehicle".
so where can i report the garage?0
