So we are talking Laptop ?

It maybe overheating as mentiones before I hope you do have PC on a flat surface
and not on a fluffy blanket in bed as that will cause a nice amount of fluff in the
vents of fan, I would blow out all vents with a can of compressed air.

Now I would also run an online virus check http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
and I would run AdAware spyware removal with system restore off then turn restore
back on after scan also run spybot search and destroy.

Its just about cleaning yer PC at no expense just a bit of time, also defrag your HDD.

    AdAware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

    Spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

I would also run https://www.ccleaner.com to clear out any crap when installing untick the option to install the yahoo toolbar.

    Thanks Electron,

No it's not a laptop. It's a desktop with plenty of ventilation.

I have Ad Aware and run it every couple of days, same with AVG (which I update almost daily) and ZoneAlarm is in there too.....also have RegistryFix & SpywareBlaster......once bitten twice shy you see ;)

Like the sound of CCleaner, am running it as we speak.

Any other suggestions as to what causes the CPU to run at 100% and sound off that alarm when I'm doing summat demanding

Your FSB speed can increase if and when all the components such as memory and CPU are running at the same or equivalent multiplier frequency.

I wouldn't worry too much about this at the moment. Decide what memory you're going to get and then we'll tackle whether your FSB can be increased.

    Cheers Nickmack,

I've ordered my 512 Ram from CCL Computers for a great price of £30.74 (inc delivery) so yeah let's cross that bridge then - that might also sort the CPU 100% alarm thingimibob

I'd try downloadign a temps/voltage monitor. See what kind of heat you are producing.

Ooh that sounds technical, now I'm really scared

Well thanks T4i, I'll leave it for the minute and see how it goes, it's not a big enough problem to warrant spending too much time at the mo (gotta do the accounts- verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry boring)
