Far East/Thailand - packages

Hi all,
I was hoping to get some recommendations on holidays to the Far East.
My boyfriend and I would like to go to Thailand (want to experience a different culture) and we are very active so we want to explore various places and then perhaps to relax by taking the sun by the end of the holidays. there is so much choice so it is hard to narrow it down. Our budget is approx 1.3k per person all inclusive and planning to go from 13th August for 10/11 nights.
Any suggestions or packages please?
Many thanks
M.

A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

the helpless, the powerless, in a world of criminals who operate above the law.

Check out airasia.com
theyve recently introduced cheap cheap flights to and from London-KL. From KL you can take another connecting air asia flight on the cheap too. So you could do London-KL-Bangkok.
I purchased a return from KL to London for october for £120! and based on the site the internal flights are less than £50 for sure. Once you get out there I hear accomodation and food etc is pretty cheap.0 -
i cannot see the london only stanstead?? im tryin to get to thailand:beer: LOVE LIFE PROCEED & PROGRESS0

Ten or eleven nights is hardly anything, so you will have little time to 'experience a different culture'.
Check your climate charts and book a couple of domestic flight destinations.
Most of the popular tourist destinations will have various activities. For instance, Samui will have Elephant Trekking, Canopy Tours, ATV tours..
Krabi will have Rock Climbing, Elephants....
Don't over-extend yourselves on such a short trip.
You'll have more then enough cash. Bank on around £450 for an indirect flight. £520 for direct with THAI.
Get your UK flights fixed and then plan your trip around the weather and your preferences.0 -

Please people, stop posting this nonsense. The OP has specific dates in August, so Air Asia X will be the worst value on such a trip.
I'm sure that you are excited about your trip, but if you can't help.....0 -
Air Asia is very cheap off-season but seems to be quite bad value for the dates you want (about £540 return to KL + connecting flight, no food or entertainment provided).
You're never gonna really experience the culture if you go on a package holiday. If culture is what you want then I suggest you buy a guidebook like Rough Guide or Lonely Planet and make a list of places you'd like to visit, then do it yourself when you get there. Perhaps avoiding the tourist hotspots. It's easy to do! I'm sure it will be cheaper this way too, unless you're looking for a luxury hotel/resort type thing.
£1.3k per person assuming a £500 return flight will leave you £800 or about £70/day if you stay for 11 days. That's loooooads of money.0 -
They will get quite enough 'culture' in the tourist hotspots. In fact I would recommend that they do go to those places in order to get the most out of their holiday.
Direct flights and more activities. All the interesting foodstuffs will be available.0 -
I've been searching this week for a break in the far east. My sis lives in KL so it suits me to fly there and see her for a few days. I saw a deal on trailfinders and i'm thinking of going for it. It's with Malaysian Airlines. Departing 3rd October. Glasgow - London - KL then on to Phuket for 8 days at Indigo Pearl hotel( 4 nights free), looks good if you just want to chill, quite a way from the main area of Patong( sleazy). The quote I received was for 21 days and comes in at £1389. We'll do our own thing most of the trip. Vietnam & Bangkok likely at the moment. Perhaps you should try and give them a call and see what they can come up with, I found them to be very helpful. No i'm not a rep or on commission! :rotfl:
Good luck.
P.s flight only was £503 and that's from glasgow straight through to phuket, I think MAS has a sale on, all you can do is check the prices for when you want to go.0 -
If you are "doing your own thing for most of the trip", how come you are paying £1389?? Is that for two people...or are you pay £868 each for your accommodation?0

Its £503 for the flight only plus £383 for the 8 nights accomodation in phuket so £1389 in total for 2 people. Flight goes outon the 3rd oct and returns on the 24th so we're flexible for the rest of the trip. Do you reckon it's an ok deal bearing in mind it's glasgow through to phuket? The hotel looks fab and includes breakfast.0
