MONEY MORAL DILEMMA: Should Fearne stump up for Reggie's music collection?

I'm unsure of which way to go on this. He shouldn't of lent it without backing up as it is silly, but I am sure some people are in the same situation of not having a current back up (me).
But he didn't have to lend it to her and he only did it as a friend so really a good friend would pay it back, and if he is a good friend he will let her do it in bits.Date I decided to clear my debt: 03/12/08
Debt started with: Loan - 2195, Credit Card - 1738, Interest free overdraft -500 = TOTAL - 4433
Current Debt: Loan - 0, Credit Card 1 - 1346, Credit Card 2 - 906 Interest free overdraft -0 = TOTAL - 22520 -
As many have said, he should have backed it up before lending it to her. Assuming she managed to get it home before losing it, she should have backed it up for her own peace of mind. The laptop is replaced with insurance but how does he remember what was on it, that it cost £400 etc etc. Since they're friends then she'd want to replace it, but she'd need to be told what to replace. That way she could also make sure she's not being over-charged.0

Most definitely NOT unless there was an agreement, in place before the event, regarding what should happen if the laptop was lost or stolen.
Whether or not Reggie was an idiot for not backing up or Fearne was not as careful as she should have been is irrelevant.0 -

Most will even let you re-download your entire back-catalogue of purchases in one or two clicks.
Job done.
Exactly what I came on here to say. If he downloaded it illegally, then he takes what he gets.0 -

I'm sure radio 1 DJs get there music from the BBC or bands wanting their music to be played! Maybe even directly from the music industry!
I think this is slightly offpoint Grandmaster. The moral dilemma always uses famous names just for fun. The point is the moral dilemma...0 -
Itunes gave me my purchased songs again for free when my laptop was stolen in 2007 after I emailed them so Reggie should do that and next time back up his music. There are some good fairly reasonably priced USB hard drives out there for this exact purpose.0

If it's £400-worth, but all downloaded illegally, then she shouldn't pay back a thing.
If he has forked out £400 for it all, then I think he is entitled to re-download it all for free. Maybe no legally, but he has paid for it once, and shouldn't have to again.0 -

Ha ha, I notice the fun they have with names every week in the moral dilemma. The hypothetical people are usually named after someone.0 -

Yeah I wouldn't lend a laptop to a friend either, she should have finished the work off in his house if she was that desperate. I think if she can afford it she could help him get the music back but she shouldn't just write out a cheque for £400.0 -
"If you can't afford to lose it, you can't afford to lend it."
She should have been more careful with someone else's property. He should have been more careful with his own.
She should pay for the laptop, he should pay for the music. Seeing as he's insured for the laptop, she should pay for the music that was lost while it was in her possession. That will probably work out cheaper than the laptop, and maybe she'll take better care in future.0
