BT Increase Broadband Cancellation Fee.

Even if customers have worked through their minimum contract period BT's new terms and conditions now state: “When you end your broadband service and do not request a migration authorisation code (MAC) or another recognised transfer process to move to another service provider, from 12 June 2009 you will have to pay a cease charge of £25.00.” The only exception to this increased charge is if BT can no longer provide a service to the new address if the customer is moving home.

I have run the full period of my (expensive) contract and have just cancelled with them. Yes, in their email response they slip in the bit about £25 for "equipment removal". If this is a new charge, can they just alter the contract they have with me? For example could they decide to charge £125.00? Surely I cannot change my conditions of contract with them.....how can they get away with this?0

BT Wholesale have levied a cease fee since May 2007 for end users cancelling adsl broadband services altogether, originally set at £33.75 (exc. VAT) - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/3041-bt-wholesale-confirms-may-price-changes.html
BT retail along with many other ISPs have since included cease fee liability in their Ts & Cs although the actual charge has varied from zero to the current £25.0
