Collision Damage Insurance on Hire Car

Hi,

I want to hire a car for my holiday in Majorca, Spain, and have found a cheap one with Avis. The problem is that it's booked through their US website and not their UK one. Having read the fine print this means that it doesn't automatically include the usual insurance protection for a hire care - collision damage & accident protection (hence the quote being so cheap!).

Seeing as there isn't that much other reasonably priced car hire available in Majorca at the end of July, and given that the optional collision damage & accident protection with Avis doubles the price, I wondered whether there is any way of taking out this kind of insurance protection independantly of the car hire company?

Any help greatly appreciated.

thanks

The cheapest I know of. Can be further reduced with Quidco.

Those links are for EXCESS insurance, reads to me like the OP doesn't have any CDW cover. I believe, in the US, normal car insurance policies cover the policy holder to drive hire cars, so they don't need CDW, hence the cheaper price and less cover, if booking through American based sites.

pompeyrich is right, it's the CDW cover that I am trying to take out, but I can't find any way of getting this type of policy independently of the car hire firms.

Looks like I'm not getting the bargain I thought I was, unlessanyone knows of any other way round this problem....?

I've seen alot fo places offer EXCESS for Europe/Worldwide but not the cover you are wanting Raaa. I have to admit though...The excess policy is a good thing to have though.
As I have seen here http://www.insurance4carhire.com/Products.asp?subRefID=0&pageID=37&langID=1&refID=100&curID=1 it only offers SLI & CDW for the US/CAN etc.. and then gives you worldwide EXCESS but it's not what you need sadly.

This policy insures the excess on the car rental agreement up to £2,000 per claim / £3,000 per rental agreement for European car rentals and $80,000 each and every claim on Worldwide car rentals.

Raaa wants the actual insurance not just the excess!

Before you go off all half cocked, as you appear to do quite often, try reading first before kicking off. If you buy the ANNUAL WORLWIDE Inc SLI then you are covered worldwide for CDW/SLI and any excesses. I include this link for your edification and to answer the OPs question fully, I suggest you read it before typing your apology.

Pardon me Andyho but I have been thanked 458 times and you what...2? So my advice can not be all bad....And what I am reading on that PDF mentions ALOT about excess and not too much about ALL the Insurances the OP wants wants for their car hire.

SO if you don't have anything nice to say...zip it!

Stay on topic and keep your personal opinions of me to yourself.

Wow this must be a popularity contest and not a money saving forum.

Again I will attempt to answer the OPs question, you must have trouble reading.

    Quote

    What you are covered for
This Section covers You for any physical loss or damage
to the Rental Vehicle for which you are responsible
for under the terms of the Car Rental Agreement. You
are covered for physical damage (including damage
to windscreens, tyres and the under body), fire, theft,
vandalism as well as towing costs related thereto or loss
of use of the Rental Vehicle.
    Sum insured
If you purchase European cover the sum insured is
£2,000 any single incident or £3,000 for a series of
incidents during any single car rental agreement.

If you purchase Worldwide cover the sum insured is
$80,000 any single incident and in total from a series of
incidents during any one rental agreement.

The last paragraph is the one the one that applies to the OPs question
