Ryanair online check in confusion.

I have never flown with Ryanair before, I'm flying next week: Liverpool - Limoge.
It states now on their website that ALL passengers much check in online, however, I have purchased "airport check in" in my options, when I bought the tickets.
However, to confuse matters further, it says that passengers who booked before a certain date and are flying before a certain date, can use airport check in.
In ANOTHER document, it states that if you do not use online check in, you will be charged £40 for the "re-issue of bording pass"
I am extremely confused, am I going to to turn up at the airport and be asked to pay a £40 fee for not checking in online? In addition to this, in Limoge, I will NOT have internet access, so how on earth can I check in ?
Sorry for the ramble, all help is appreciated. Not looking forward to flying Ryanair

You can check in online with Ryanair up to 15 days in advance (restrictive compared to 60 days with Easyjet), so you can check-in online for the return journey before you leave.0

If you have airport check in in your confirmation you have booked your flights before May the 20th (not sure about the exact date). Just go to the airport and check in there. I just did this three weeks ago when travelling from Stockholm to Paris and return. There will be no £40 fee. It is only bookings done after May where online check in is enforced with the £40 penalty. Earlier you had to check in at the airport if you had luggage to check in.I have never flown with Ryanair before, I'm flying next week: Liverpool - Limoge.

Thanks for the replies.
I think I may try the online check in this time, just to see how it all goes - I can still check in baggage, right?
It might just make the whole process a little easier too.:j0 -
Depends what the rules were at the time you made the booking. Generally if you had checked luggage you couldn't use on-line check-in. But the website will stop you checking in on-line if you can'tI think I may try the online check in this time, just to see how it all goes - I can still check in baggage, right?.0 -
I have just flown to Spain and returned with Ryanair. I was very nervous as there seemed to be so much confusion over where and whether you checked in and at what cost.
I chose On-Line check in because it was cheaper.
At the departure airport, there were 2 desks (next to each other). One said Bag Drop Off, the other was normal check-in. The main difference was that at Bag Drop Off, you showed your boarding card and passport, your case aws labelled and weighed and that was it.
It was exactly the same at the return airport. Some peopl in our queue did not have boarding cards and were sent to a machine at the Ryanair desk to get one. Not sure if there was any charge but they were very quick. This only happened for On-Line check in customers who had not actually done it. At the departure gate, Priority boarding customers went first and then the remainder of the passengers. No-one really looked at the hand luggage and I did not see any scales. There is however a measuring cage. I did not see it used.
All in all I found the experience OK and we had good flights. I would not hesitate to use them again providing they do not bring in further silly charges.
If you are going away for less than 15 days you print off both your outward and return boarding cards before you go. If it is more than 15 days you may be able to print your return card at your destination (internet) or you can do it at the Airport Ryanair check-in desk.
Hope this helps0 -
thank you ellieslug.
