Thanks. I'd be working on Perth Rd near the uni - within about 20-30mins brisk walk...

Quite a range on Carol Whyte now http://www.carolwhyteproperty.co.uk/sb/show.do?p=additional&n=0&id=SB0001322635000050 Quite a range on Belvoir, too http://www.belvoirlettings.com/officepropertyresults.aspx?viewvar=results&pagenum=0&bedrooms=0&minrent=0&maxrent=500000&distance=5&furnished=0&status=0&officeid=145 Pleased I waited now :) there seem to be far more places on offer atm. The condition *looks* OK from photos, but you can never be sure of course

    hi newmove,
are you planning to arrange viewings & spend a day here checking them out? I guess you'd have to

have you checked to see which areas are near where you want to be? if not, or if you need a hand I can tell you which properties are near the west End

I'm busy tonight, but I'll take a look at the listings tomorrow & mark the ones that won't be too far away from where you want to be :)

Thanks. Actually, there seem to be quite a few which are close enough (according to Google Maps, at least). E.g. all bar the bottom 3 here are w/in a mile or so of Perth Rd http://www.carolwhyteproperty.co.uk/sb/show.do?p=additional&n=0&id=SB0001322635000050 Easy to check distances - any ideas as to places in a good/bad area would be great, though.

Definitely planning to visit Dundee to check places out, before signing anything. Once rented a room unseen, when I was a bit younger and far more stupid. It was a learning experience, I guess...
  • Hi newmove
Blakies mews are lovely flats, just a shame they are on Alexender street next to the multi storey flats and a stones through away from the Hilltown!! Definetly NOT the Perth road.

If you want Perth road and Student living then Blakies mews is not for you. I used to live in the Hilltown and its reputation is worse than than the area LOL

Dundee is relatively cheap for rentals if you look you can get a 2 bed place sub £400.

Thanks - according to google, though, Blakey's Mews are within 30mins walk from work, and I can generally do things quicker, so walkable if the area they're in suits and the flats are good for the money. If being nr Hilltown would be a hassle though, maybe not.

I don't want student living, per se - think the lifestyle would kill me now  and I'd rather avoid living anywhere too noisy. Being near Perth Rd/work would be handy, though.

    hi anewmove,
I've had a look at your link & I'm only going to mention places I've experience of, or have known someone who lies/lived there, there'll be others along to fill in the gaps

I agree with bobby-boy, the Blakies Mews flats are lovely, my daughter & her partner lived in one of the top storey ones, they're quite small, but fine for a single person or a couple & are quirky because the eaves jut into the rooms (I liked that though) possibly not so good if you're tall though!

once in the 'mews' itself it's quiet & self-contained, like a little square
it's not too close to the Hilltown, but a connection is formed by the Alexander St multis, which are in the long street that runs between Blakies Mews & the Hilltown, however they're due for demolition & the area is about to undergo major redevelopment

if you come out of the mews & head for town in the opposite direction to the multis, you're on a major road & it's fine, certainly my daughter never had any trouble while she lived there & only left because a flat in the West End became available which it was easier for Uni

how long it'll take you to walk to work depends on where on the Perth Road you'll be located, it's a long road! but there are 2 buses that run nearby that'll take you over to the West End

actually, the Hilltown's fine during the day (& is home to one of my favourite shops, the Continental grocery, it's primarily a Halal store but also stocks a huge range of multi-ethnic foods) but it'd be wise to steer clear at night & also avoid most of the pubs there unless a local takes you in! on live music nights, one of them specialises in having all the ladies get up & dance on the tables & bar during the last number, entertaining but scary stuff by midnight :D

Gardener St area is ok, I'd guess a 15-20 minute walk to the Perth Rd

Forest Park Rd is fine too, it's right in the West End, 5-10 minutes to Perth Rd

Thanks - arranged a load of viewings this week. Shepherd apparently want an application form completed, and take a week or so for processing it, before you can view rental flats  That's a new one on me...

Thanks for all the info. Maybe the Mews are out, then. Not short, and have a great knack of banging my head on anything at the right/wrong height.

Hm, that's a 2nd agency who want me to drop past an application form before viewing flats. Either things have changed since I was last renting, or I've suddenly started sounding esp dodgy on the telephone!

the application form's pretty standard before you rent around here these days, so don't take it personally ;)

the flat at the mews was on a corner, so probably had more than its fair share of bits to bang your head on, it's a converted jute mill & the flats won't be identical so still might be worth a look?

Ah, thanks. Anyway, having gone through agents and gumtree, if things go smoothly I should be viewing about 10 places in one day of viewings... Now just need to decide whether to stay in Dundee overnight, so I can get a feel for what any promising places are like in the evening...
