Removal Companies HELP!!

Hi, looking for some advice...

We are moving house (only found out this weekend) next Thursday so racing now trying to get quotes etc... Would people recommend we go for a local company or big National company and if local, do we go for one based at our end or based near to where we are moving to?

If anyone has any good recommendations for companies in Suffolk, it'd be appreciated.

Thanks

Don't know about your particular area but I would try a local "man in a van" type person.

I paid 220 quid for one as opposed tp 650 for a proper removal company and he came with 2 helpers and a big removal van.

OK you're not insured and you will have to get your own boxes but it will save a fortune and will normally do short notice.

It's all down to personal preference and/or experience.

Personally I never use national carriers and use local people. That, by definition, means a company at the pick up end not the drop off end. For me, it's the packing up that causes more stress so I'd want them local at that point.

I used to hear the bigger national companies were always more expensive but often with that type of move a company was usually paying so didn't matter. Local companies were better value and more likley to haggle price. You need one local to you now as they are on the door step as far as dropping off boxes etc and for packing if required as part of their service.

I heard about 'removal company packing' quite lot as people felt, after the event, it would of been easier to have done it themselves and slowly over a few days. The reason being the time it took on the moving day and meant later departure. Althought it could be done the day before.

Regarding packing - personal experience would say you are wrong.. I got them to do it all on my last move and would ALWAYS get them to do it from now on. They can do it faster and better than you ever could and the stress level is ZERO!

We moved 200 miles about 3 1/2 years ago but had to put our stuff into store for a few months. We used GB Liners and they were very good indeed.

We had enough stuff to fill a large removal van.

I agree with chickmug on the packing. Do it yourself.

Have you ever used their packing service though? I have!

If you did a poll you would find a split so no way is right or wrong but with old clients I would say 50/50. Each person needs to think it through as to their own personal position.

Agreed but I do question someones comments when they have no actual experience on the subject.

Try helpiammoving website. I did it recently and was pleased with the response I got. You'll probably need to check availability first though seeing as it's next week

Good luck, hope it all goes well!
