Which dry dog food is the best for skin problems? We feed Mia (doberman almost 2) on James Welbeloved and for the last 6 months she has had really bad acne type spots all over her body, the vet has given us 2 courses of antibiotics, the first helped alot but it came back. The 2nd course hasnt done anything, they are just as bad.
Would changing her food help? which dry food would you recommend?

My husky had skin problems with James Welbeloved. I now feed her a mixture of raw food and (for convenience) Burns dry food. Her skin problems cleared up immediately I took her off James Welbeloved.0

Thanks for the reply, I was just looking at Burns dry food. I think I will swap her onto that for a couple of months and see how she goes.£100 - £10,0000

My beloved dog now in,doggy heaven, had a severe skin complaint which was treated with steroids. I looked up other treatments as the condition kept coming back. What I came across were sulphur tablets from the health shop. The condition cleared up and never came back.
A friends dog suffered with eczema and again the sulphur cleared the dogs skin. Its worth a try if other methouds fail. Also cod liver oil in its food helps the skin.0 -
We use Royal Canin skin support food. Your vet can sell it to you but it will be cheaper to buy from Pet supermarket on line.
I did add a link the other day to some brilliant creme/shampoo we recently discovered and are now using and its been wonderful. My border terrier has usually chewed himself raw by this time in the summer and its been a real heat wave but he has hardly scratched at all. And they give 100% satisfaction or money back:

I will second Janetwes' suggestion - a mix of raw meat (raw chicken wings are particularly popular) and burns should help clear things up...Burn's doesn't come cheap, but it's a real quality food and well worth the price tag!0

Hi! my lovely boy has atopic dermatitis and can scratch himself raw. we asked the vet about food and she mentioned that some dry foods can attract dust mites, which COULD make the scratching worse. Her advice was if we did want to feed him dry food, then we should buy it in very small bags and store in air tight containers to prevent any mites.
In the end, due to another condition, we ended up feeding him Chappie - cheap and cheerful, but vet did say it was one of the best foods around.
Will def try the sulphur idea though...thanks lolababy0 -
ellie, do try the shampoo aswell as per the link above. And check out the photos on there. Many Tears rescue put me on to the shampoo and creme as they were trialing it with their rescued puppy farm westies with dermatitis - see their site too for the results.
I am very pleased with how its helped our border terrier.0 -
Hi Miamoo,
I don't think dry dog food make skin problems, there are many aspects should consider0 -
My dog eats a mix of Arden Grange Salmon and Rice and Arden Grange Sensitive (contains white fish and potato) and her coat is beautiful now where she used to have red itchy skin. :j0

I've recently switched my dog to Arden Grange as well. He used to have red itchy skin on his tummy but that's all cleared up now. He's only been on Arden Grange for a month and the difference is remarkable. His coat has never felt so good. And he loves it as well. He's not been keen on the dried foods we've tried before, but he wolfs this down. We've only tried the Lamb & Rice one so far, might try the fish one next time.0
