Hi all
I would ring the Halifax and ask, but from past experience you ask three different people and get three different answers, so the definitive answer is mostly likely to be found on these here boards!
I need to transfer £50k from my BoS IASA to my First Direct current account, ideally on Monday 20th July, to arrive at FD by Friday 24th July.
TIA
Suze

- Can I move the whole lot from my IASA to my (so-called) High Interest Current Account in one go using Internet banking? If not, what's the maximum daily limit?
- Can I do same using telephone banking? If not, what's the maximum daily limit?
- Can I do same by going into branch and asking one of the idiots in there to do it? If not, what's the maximum daily limit?
- Once money is in the HICA, can I BACS it across to FD in one go using Internet banking? If not, what's the maximum daily limit?
- Can I do same using telephone banking? If not, what's the maximum daily limit?
- Can I do same by going into branch and dealing with idiots? If not, what's the maximum daily limit?
TIA
Suze

Can I do same by going into branch and dealing with f-wits?
And your edit doesn't exactly improve things. Can I do same by going into branch and dealing with idiots?
Has it crossed your mind that YOUR attitude could make staff in a bank branch feel intimidated? In my experience banks pay a mediocre wage and obtain good quality branch staff for it. I'm sorry you've lost faith, but there really is no reason to be so insulting to people who are almost certainly trying to do their best for their customers.0 -
Sorry if I've caused offence but the level of knowledge of their staff is pitiful. That includes the people in the branches.

The internal transfer shouldn't be a problem. For the transfer to FD, I don't know what the limits are, but typically they are low for automated transfers. I severely doubt you'd be able to do it online. You may be able to do it by phone by speaking to an advisor, but the cheque option is a reliable fallback.0

Thanks. So there's no £10k limit for internal online transfers?

You might be interested in [thread=1785897]my transfer experience[/thread].
I believe there is no limit for internal transfers. In above thread I was advised to do the transfer from my Halifax savings a/c via the phone. ThIs was then carried out within 2 hours.
I was told that the daily total limit for external transfers is £10K. However, I was able to move more. This might be due to the fact that I moved from 2 current accounts. Maybe this limit is per account or it isn't true.
And, by the way, I do object to that particular swear word, too. I understand that you are getting exasperated about "pitiful knowledge levels" but this kind of language is un-called for. May I suggest you edit your post and replace it with something less offensive?Dagobert0 -
The outgoing limit is £15K...in my experience...although I'm not sure if that's per customer or per account. If the latter, and you perhaps have a few Reward accounts, you should be OK.
Although I've previously moved over £50K between two Halifax accounts on the same day, I've limited each transaction to <£15K because I assumed the same limits applied for internal transfers.
Echo the previous comments on your language (EDIT: which I see you've now removed). This isn't 'The Arms'.0 -
OK, point taken about the language.
Thanks for the replies re transfers.
YB, the £50k you moved, was it all from one account to another (broken into chunks)?
I have got a few Reward accounts, so they may come in handy! Didn't think of that...

It's for a house completion, which doesn't take place until the end of July, so I was building some slack time into my plan by having all the money in FD by the end of the previous week

Trying on the Monday should still allow time for your backup plan with the cheque...providing it'll 'clear' on/by Friday at FD?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Savings & Investments, Small Biz MoneySaving and House Buying, Renting & Selling boards.
