Buying foreign currency - don't get caught out!

Don't get caught out! We recently bought some foreign currency at the Post Office with a Lloyds TSB debit card. Notwithstanding the exchange rate and charges made by the Post Office, Lloyds TSB have charged £2 for the privilege.

We should have gone to the cash machine outside the Post Office, drawn the sterling amount, and gone in and paid cash. No bank charge!

What charges made by the PO? Exchange rate doctoring, yes, but no charges.

Anyway the PO should have warned you of the possibility of charges. Whilst they are not trained in which banks charge, they are told that some do and are supposed to say so if you ask to pay by card. It's then up to you to know your bank's policy.
