Unlocked Blackberry Bold

I've won a Blackberry Bold 900! I've managed to learn how to use the thing - just about.

The thing is I am a Virgin PAYG customer and because of that I can't get all the benefits offered by this phone although I can access the internet now I have downloaded the Opera mini browser via wifi.

I've got an old Orange sim card which seems to bring this beautiful phone to life. I am a low PAYG user so I am thinking of going on the Orange racoon tariff with the blackberry add on bundle for £5 a month. Does anyone know if I can browse the full internet with this or am I restricted?

I am also looking at the "3" £10 PAYG top up which gives a 150mb download, and 300 texts. Anyone tried this on a Blackberry? I will just be checking emails and occasionally browsing the web.

I'd appreciate any feedback or help to get the best out of this phone without spending a fortune - as it's unlocked I don't think I need to.

I would suggest you to go for O2 rather than three (dunno about orange)if you gonna take a connection solely for the purpose of internet or the blackberry bundle.

I have contracts with both O2 and 3, and also have the unlimited internet with three but their network IMO is not reliable when it comes to internet.
Although I have the unlimited internet package (1GB data allowance) I hardly am able to use it as their network is busy all the time. As I have the N97 with them it is helpful in updating few datas and all but would not recomend you for heavy internet usage.

Take one of the O2 simplicity (sim only) tariffs, and add the unlimited internet bolt on with it (would come free with some of the higher tariffs e.g £15 a month). :T

    Hope this helps

You need to take a Blackberry "bolt on" on your account so you can register your Blackberry on the Blackberry servers. Like Orange offer it on their pay as you go for £5.00.

o2 offer pay as you go Blackberry bolt on (£3 per mb), or free unlimited bolt on on their £20pm simplicity (otherwise £10pm charge).

Normal internet allowance bundles won't work as they don't register your Blackberry properly and send service books to you.

    Unsure about other networks.

I don't think that "3" offer any blackberry's so you really can't look at them for a suitable tariff..

  • Thanks everyone - I'm just about getting to grips with all this. I don't use a mobile much, but I do like the thought of email on the move so am thinking of going for Orange.
