Most policies are new for old on pedal cycles
thanks guys. so if IVAL try and offer me a chaep crappy bike can i tell them the newer model of the bike???? they have told me which places the use and ive checked the website of these stores and they dont stock this make of bike. can i tell them were to get the new model from as they are getting the replacement for me.0 -
If the policy states New for Old that is what you get. Your policy is with Santander, NOT IVAL. And DO NOT let IVAL get anything for you. They only put forward companies who offer THEM a discount, and you aren't made aware of that discount.
After a long running battle with IVAL myself, (see earlier post) I got a decent valuation for all my damaged goods, which was paid in cash, and with my excess refunded AND a payment to cover my time that they wasted pursuing the claim.
Remember, IVAL are NOT your insurers!
You may have a problem trying to get a newer model of your bike, as that can be seen as you 'profiting' from your loss, but similarly you should not loose out just because it is no longer available. My suggestion would be to ask them to pay the exact cost of the original bike, especially as it was only a year old. Do you still have the receipt/ credit card bill for it, to prove the amount?
Good luck. It may take a while but do hold out for a sensible settlement.Bye for now,
Paul

Took us many, many months to sort out a claim for a lost ring with iVal.
(Policy with M&S)
iVAL are pretty incompetent IMHO. very very very slow and needed chasing all the time. Never had up to date notes on what was happening.
Had to get some independent estimates to replace the ring like for like rather than accepting a voucher of lower value for a jewellers that didn't have a similar ring.
Eventually had a good outcome after much pain and complaining. Got a replica ring made to equivalent quality and value in Hatton Garden.
Never accept the first or second offer!Mr Straw described whiplash as "not so much an injury, more a profitable invention of the human imagination—undiagnosable except by third-rate doctors in the pay of the claims management companies or personal injury lawyers"0 -

Did you get this resolve to your satisfaction with IVAL? I'm just embarking on the same thing.
Who were IVAL suppliers?0 -
Who were IVAL suppliers?
IVAL went for the cheapest suppliers for all the items I had put in a claim for. They did NOT want to supply items by the same manufacurer. For example, they offered the cheapest Proline microwave (£29) to replace my Sanyo model (Cost £89). And bear in mind IVAL get a discount from their suppliers so the cost of my claim to them was further reduced. Thank goodness I am stubborn and held out for a realistic valuation, and I insisted on a cheque as settlement, so I could buy my own replacements.
Good luck with your claim but be prepared for a lengthy process.Bye for now,
Paul

Hello i was wondering if someone could give me some advice, I am insured with Nationwide, I have made a claim with the underwriters, bevalued which i believe is part of IVAL, I am claiming for a laptop and an iphone that was stolen, i purchased these items second hand so was only able to provide a hand written receipt, which bevalued claimed did not arrive (even though the letter that was sent along with the receipt arrived) so i went back to the people i bought them off (luckily there address was sill in satnav) and got duplicate receipts, even though bevalued requested that i got the duplicates, bevalued then said nationwide wanted further proof of ownership and to go back to the people i bought the items off and get a handwritten letter with their personal details on, i was able to do this for laptop but the man i bought the iphone off didnt want to write a letter with his personal details on (i don't blame him i wouldn't want to either) but now bevalued are saying that nationwide is saying that the letter is not proof enough and unless i can provide the original receipt they will not payout. I have looked in my policy and cannot find anything about proof of ownership. i would be grateful of any advice.:mad:0

Hi, I have an account with Barclays, I accidentally damaged my oldish mac I was gutted. I called Barclays on the off chance that they could repair it. Their customer services were BRILLIANT. I was asked to pack up the old computer and a courier would pick it up in the morning.
I was called just a week later by IVAL to say that they could not fix this old one and that they would offer me a newer model. I stated that I had a larger hard drive, they immediately sent me a fantastic newer model, no issues!.
The computer came back the next day at a time to suit me.
The company did charge me a fee of £35 for an external hard drive , all the recovered ITUNES and priceless photos, which is what we wanted.
FANTASTIC customer service by both companies.

my iPhone got water all over it in a puddle, and we have Santander insurance and they handed it over to iVal, it is a 3GS, and this is now discontinued from Apple, they have it now, from last Monday, i don't know where it is or anything, what will they do once it's been assessed?0
