Buy secondhand chalet shed summerhouse? What discount over new? What advice?

I'm looking for a small to medium (2m x 2m max.) shed, something a bit attractive as it will be visible from the house.
The ones I like have a rrp of £1799 but are widely available cheaper online for £1279 including delivery. Still a bit much!
Now I've seen a secondhand one advertised locally to relations for £800. It didn't sell and they've re-advertised it for £500.
The owners claim it is 3 years old and that they bought it for £2100 but it turns out this included delivery and installation. They dismantled it and took it with them when they moved house but decided not to install it again. They have painted it, which I don't mind, and it is pressure treated timber. I haven't seen it and am unable to.
I want negotiate on the price and they are willing. I would have to arrange and pay for my own collection and delivery, so a bit of hassle factor and the extra cost of about £160.
If it costs £1279 (not £2100 as they claim!) what would you pay?;)

I wouldn't pay more than a few hundred for a 2 x 2 shed if it was brand new let alone second hand..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Erranta, thanks.
I wonder if anyone knows which are the better brands?0 -
Have a look at what your local shed and garden chalet supplier has got..................

Yes I've done that and it's rrp is £1799 and shed place is selling them for £1250 new.
What to pay for a 3 year old secondhand one unseen?0 -
I don't know where the hell you are looking.

But their 7 ft x 7 ft
http://www.waltons.co.uk/garden-sheds-and-storage/wooden-sheds/7ft-x-7ft/waltons-norfolk-apex-double-door-shed-7x7
is £299 including delivery........
If I was to buy a 2nd hand shed, firstly, unless it was in perfect condition I wouldn't buy it. Secondly, I would pay less than a £100, unless it was something really special.
I don't buy sheds, I get given them, sometimes I have to do a little remodeling, it's trueBut, I have never bought a shed, relying on neighbours to get rid of them because they want to move on and buy a better one before theirs is totally worn out. Then I can get several more years from it easy.

I would like to have it, provided the price is right!
The delivery man said it will cost me £160 to have to delivered into my back garden.
The sellers tell me they have had another offer so they want my offer and they'll sell to the highest....
I just want to make a reasonable offer and leave it at that. Who knows if the other buyer even exists.0 -
Do you want a shed, or something to sit in?
I wouldn't buy a 2nd hand shed without seeing it, full stop!
You are talking about paying £660 for a 2ndhand shed that you haven't even seen! In my book that's a bit bonkers.
I bet you could get a local handyman to build a better one for that price.
And it would be unique and new.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I was thinking of £560 incl. delivery, ie. offer £400.
Sit in in the summer, storage in the winter.
Your right £660 is a lot of money....I'm having second thoughts.
TBH, I did look at the posts and panels at the shed place and wonder if I could get one built for less...but the day rate down here is £150 and it would probably run to 2 days. Whereas I could assemble the flat-pack myself with a friend.0 -
have a good look around at the suppliers in your area. They will erect it for you, and glaze it too. Some will even provide details of a good company to put down a concrete base.
I bought a 24x18ft shed a couple of years ago, being so large, I am able to use it for several purposes. Storage, seedlings, gym, sleepovers and kids parties, OH even works in there on the odd day, as I managed to fit in a large desk (with all the camping gear stored underneath). I also have kayaks hung from brackets along the back.
I managed to get rid of 2 smaller sheds to neighbours, who then gave us a hand preparing the base (job and a half that was).
I certainly wouldn't pay that much for a 2nd handshed, it has no guarantees with it. I think whoever is selling, is taking the mick at that price.
You would also on top of paying for delivery, have to reglaze, and buy new felt (is this the right term for the waterproof roll they use) for the roof.
It does not appear to be a good deal at all
Please look around and don't be pessured buy the seller.0
