requested contact info for seller from ebay and there was no address recorded and a phone number that was invalid

Ebay need to get their act together and not allow people to register, unless they enter an address. It's not difficult for Ebay to set up auto software to authenticate addresses - it wouldn't stop all fraud, but it would make the chancers think twice.

The good news though is that bank transfers appear to be covered under the Ebay standard protection scheme:

    Cheers soolin...
Yep, could be covered but only up to £105.
Personally I think its disgraceful considering ebay let sellers register without any real details :(

I agree the sign up process for eBay should more similar to that of PayPal, the address and telephone number should be verified and that way it could stop a lot of this happening.

The seller is now advertising a 42" LCD HD.
He also did a second chance on the xbox 360, and now has negative feedback from the 2nd chance offer.
The other item he sold .. satnav, was bought under a shill, and he has given that ID a feedback of 4 by buying 1p ebooks ...

Will ebay do anything to stop this yet?

Is it just me? I can maybe understand that you might allow your 12 year old son access to your eBay account, but allowing them access to your paypal account as well? Surely thats just asking for trouble.

Ebay will probably do something about it at the same time as people stop buying things without doing the basic checks first.

Realistically he should find it *very* difficult to sell a 42 inch plasma screen with his feedback, but what's the bet that someone will bid thinking they have a bargain?

    Soo

Not any more. He's NARU, you will all be pleased to see?. Short shelf life he had as a seller, but no doubt he will be back under a different username shortly.
Can you stop a Bank Transfer? Or are they really going to have to hope the 360 arrives??

The only realistic way to do that is to de-fund the account the transfer is initiated upon - and before the Bank overnight Batch run sucks the money out. So you have only a max of 24hrs to do it in.
Are you the buyer or is the buyer a friend or relative?

If not, then I have to say that despite the fact that I agree with you that the buyer looks very dodgy, it really isn't anything to do with you and it is down to the buyer to do their own investigations.

The winning bidder looks to be very experienced from their feedback so should be well aware of the dangers, so to be honest I would recommend you stay out of it.

It's a viewpoint, I suppose. But not exactly in the spirit of these forums - nor, essentially, in the spirit that Ebay intends. Had a similar situation several months ago when an item came up on one of my embedded searches for £1500. A Bronze that was alleged to be authentic and not a mass repro - and the seller claimed it was authenticated by a leading London valuer. Whose name they managed to mis-spell.

Put it on my watch list solely out of curiousity, and that no one would bid. As similar items are fairly regular and sell for £60 to £100. So was astonished when a French buyer bid right at the auction end. Thought about it - checked he did not normally buy Bronzes - then emailed him. To suggest he sought sight of the valuation before parting with any money. Never did get a reply - but suspect that when the seller, then with a feedback of 100+, was NARU'd within the next 48hrs - the smoke had a fire attached?

So don't go with the 'mind your own business' bit - provided you have checked out the facts and it's relatively conclusive.
