Avast! Home Edition is free, and of the many comparisons of anti virus software I looked at when my Norton ran out Avast! looked the best option of any virus software available.

google for "avast antivirus" and it obvious how to download the free home version.

You have to register your usage, and you get a free keyfile to a years use, when your year is up they really really try and sell you the professional edition, but it is easily possible (as in it is an option in the program) to renew you free usage.

NB. I don't work for Alwil software or have any affiliation with any anti virus software producers. I am just a computer geek.

    Cheers,

Why not buy the cheap 2009 version and update it for the 2010 version for free?

would you mind elaborating, why is this?
i used to have avg/zone alarm on my old pc which died and i didnt have problems with it,although it was a pain with granting permission but that was more zone alarm
i just found it easier with kaspersky
think ill have a look for the 2009 version it does seem a lot cheaper
