Following the visit from the emergency plumber yesterday the assessor arrived out today. He looked at everything, explained he had been sent out because the plumber thought the cost would be over £1000 and advised that he thought the stud wall would need to be pulled down, the solid wall inspected and if necessary replastered and with that the room would need retiled.
A contractor is coming out tomorrow to get the insurer a quote for the cost of sorting it out. The assessor explained that if dad wanted anything different to what was already there and it cost more than the builders quote he would have to pay the difference. My dad is happy enough so far.

Well, seems very arbitrary.the surveyor thinks the shower tray was leaking, and we hadnt paid attention to it immediately. they are offerring £120 to repair the ceiling downstairs! I have said no way, and that I would like a second opinion, we have fixed the pipe that was leaking, done nothing to the shower tray, and there is no more escape of water. They are also not offerring to replace the laminate floor which has lifted either.
    Yoyr surveyor sounds reasonable.

    Any comments anyone?
    Loving the sunny days!

Just wanted to update everyone re my dad's claim from Halifax.

The contractors are coming out tomorrow to start the repair work. They have been authorised to pull down the stud wall where they have assessed the shower has been leaking. The shower, shower tray and screen and tiles are to be replaced and they have also told him they intend replacing the ceiling in the utility room below and checking the joists to see if they need replacing too. The contractor has been authorised to make it back to the way it was so if he wants anything different which increases the cost above what the contractor quoted it is up to him to pay the difference.

All in all my dad is delighted with the service he has got from the Halifax.

Thanks for your help and advice.
