Why do you even need a new suite? Has the water somehow damaged it?

OP has stated that the suite is champagne colour and it will be difficult to match. No one would want a missmatched suite. Unfortunately he will have to contribute if he wants a matching items replaced.

If he had a good broker like dacouch fighting his corner, he might have a chance.

I know, he has said that. Claims like this are very common- so am just wandering how the shower tray has actually been damaged by the escape of water?

If this isnt damaged then there is no need to replace it, surely?

I deal with quite a few people like this and OAPs take great pride in not claiming off their insurance as they see it as just for major problems like fires. Its the reason why Insurers love them as clients so much. The poor chap will feel guilty for actually claiming on his Insurance and will not understand how to make a claim. So its great that he has his daughter telling him its ok to claim and finding out what he is entitled to.

If he is going to make a claim then he is entitled to be paid for everything he is entitled to eg a contribution towards the rest of the suite (Where appropriate) and using the Trace and Access Cover (If he has it).

At his age he has almost certainly been with the same Insurer for donkeys years and is probably with either a local broker, CIS or the Pru. So hopefully he will have a decent policy and should get decent service.

Pam if you can let us know who he is insured with we can check whether you have the Trace and Access Cover as this could contribute a hefty amount towards the claim

HTH - somewhere on the net there's a firm in the UK that specialises in out of fashion and unusual coloured bathroom sanitaryware, they may have champagne Google should find it.

I missunderstood your post. A 15 year old shower base will almost certainly be ceramic. I would suggest that it will be very difficult to remove and re-instate without damage.

Thanks missile and dacouch for the information. I haven't found out who his insurance is with yet but will let you know. You're right about my dad not even thinking about his insurance, in fact we hadn't even thought about it either until a friend of the family mentioned it. Either my brother or my husband will be with dad when he calls the insurance company and if/when an assessor comes round.

Let us know who the Insurer is if you can so we can prep you with what they are covered for as sometimes they do not send out a proper Loss Adjuster, they sometimes send out a building contractor who will not always know all the things you are covered for and will want to quote for the work himself.

May I suggest you take some photos of the damage and get you own contractor to quote. Not all contractors are cowboys and a good one may point out things you have not noticed.

I wish you better luck than we had.

Well dad contacted his insurers, Halifax, yesterday and they sent out an emergency plumber who confirmed that the leak is not from either the shower waste or the seal around the shower. They weren't able to do anything but confirmed what we thought, the leak has been going for some time and had been contained by the plastic sheeting under the shower tray before being soaked up by the wood support and the lower end of the stud wall until they could soak up no more. So an assessor is coming out today. My dh will be there with my dad when they come out just so that we get the full picture of what needs to be done next.

    hi,
I sympathise with your Dad, we have the same problem! I am curious as to your outcome, we had a local surveyor visit nearly a week ago, and are waiting to hear from Cloyds.
    Loving the sunny days!
