Upgrading CPU

I updated my BIOS to it latest version. However the latest version was an update in 2007. So the BIOS may still be old but the guide says it supports the CPU i brought. I also have a new cooler that comes with thermal grease. All that is left to do it install it and try.
Hope everything goes well. Thanks.
Good luck with it, but i'd be very surprised if you get any real FPS (frame per second) benefit in games. Download FRAPS (google it) and see what FPS games are running at. You want 30 fps minimum, a lot of people aim for 60 fps to iron out microstutter.
If your on a budget stick one of these GFX cards in

almost double the performance of your 9600! and should give good FPS, with high quality gfx settings.0 -
Currently my computer has no heatsink. THe fan that came with the processor need to be install by push pins and i dont think my motherboard can take it. Can someone link me to a good heatsink that supports LGA 775 socket and is SCREW BASED. I dont want to deal with pushpins anymore.0

luffy..you should really start a new thread with a new topic...but..
I don't believe you have a lga 775 processor running without a heatsink...that lump of metal under the fan..that's the heatsink
I have 3 775 based PCs, only one of them (mine) is using a bolt-though cooler, the sublime NoctuaNH-U12P, though the other 2 also use 3rd party coolers, because the intel ones are...er...not very good.
I also HATED push pins...until I finally spent 30 seconds looking at how they work, once you've done that it's easy to make sure everything is aligned correctly, and the coolers fit really easilyUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -

I need a new cooler system for the new chip, and the one i was currently using is pretty old. My computer is dead right now untill i can get a good cool system with EASY installation.
After spending an hour on trying to use the push pins, all it felt like was that i was damaging my motherboard.0 -
your not trying to install heatsink with MOBO in the case are you?
Remove mobo and put on flat worksurface and lay down a piece of cardboard from mobo box etc. Now you can mount the heatsink. Hold heatsink flush with left hand, while push down pins 1, 3, 2, 4 with right hand in alternate order, the last one will need a little force.
If you do it in the case the mobo can easily snap.0
