If you get the one you linked to, it won't work. Check the link in my earlier post.0 -

the only way to know for sure is to: a)try it , or b) email mobo maker and ask
that mobo supports sk775, dual core, 800fsb etc.
that cpu fits all the above
incidently op this here is the same thing but cheaper."If you really want to hurt your parents and you don't have nerve enough to be homosexual, the least you can do is go into the arts."0 -
Im going to try the link. Since noone is exactly sure or provided alternatives i will just hope for the best.
If all goes wrong i can just install the old one back in right?0 -
Forget CPU, forget memory, the single most important component for a gamer is the GFX card. base your budget around a decent GFX card and work from there.
An E5200 with 2gb ram, with an 8800gt (NOT 9600) or above will be ok for a budget gamer. Ideally get a GTX 260 which can be had for about £99ex! a true monster of a card.0 -

Hi Luffy,
Update the BIOS before you change the CPU (unless you already have the latest version). It won't affect the operation of your old CPU but it may be necessary for the new one.
Another thing to be aware of is that between the CPU and the cooler you'll need to make sure there's a thin layer of thermal compound between the two surfaces. If you're using the same cooler, check there's enough left on it - you may need to scrape some of the old CPU. Ideally a fresh new layer should be applied.
That new CPU may run hotter than the old one. You could use something like this program to keep an eye on the temperatures.

I updated my BIOS to it latest version. However the latest version was an update in 2007. So the BIOS may still be old but the guide says it supports the CPU i brought. I also have a new cooler that comes with thermal grease. All that is left to do it install it and try.
Hope everything goes well. Thanks.0
