  • For military personnel if you show your id card they will give you a day pass which allows you to buy anything on the shelves.

So anyone know is it still a membership-only place, or not? I signed up ages ago and got my photo taken etc. Then I lost the card so stopped going, but might give it another try if they've binned all that membership thing.

You still have to be a member, but it costs nothing and does not require a photo. You will just have to fill in a membership form instore.

becoming a member at matalan involves filling out a small form with your home details, you then get your card, it is as simple as that, no money, no photos no waiting 7 days for activation.

    and as for rubbish stuff??

i have bought quicksilver sweat tops, nike, addidas, levis, ralph lauren, ysl and other stuff, the quality is always as good as the make you buy.

  • Nice tip, I will be there Christmas Eve.

Most of the gifts are have already 50% off.

I always go to Matalan for work trousers & blouses but would advise you do try on as they arent the best cuts in the world!! But hey who can complain when work trousers cost £8 a go. They do different lenghts and range from petite to larger sizes.

There homeware is also great and very cheap.
  • They also sell

Wonderbra and Sloggie at cheaper prices (not seconds)
  • Just posted something about this sale in another topic ;
As a Matalan employee I can exclusively reveal that although the sale isn’t meant to start until boxing day, it will be going live tomorrow – Christmas eve. Therefore, if you happen to go into a store this evening then all the sale goods will be in the process of being ticketed and if you are lucky may get the items at the sale price (the prices will need to be overridden at the till points), I know that our store will be doing this. I also wouldn’t necessary go by the highlighted marks on the labels as proof that the item will be in sale, all sale things will be ticketed and gunned with the correct prices. Furthermore, our store will also have a small section of the leftovers from last year’s sale these items will all be £3, £2 or £1 – I’ve been told that these items will be skipped if not purchased within a week or so. And finally, be extra considerate to the till people like myself as you will probably find that quite a few sale items will not go through the tills at the sale price and will have to be overridden, this can be a little time consuming and you can do your bit by also checking that the prices for each item bought go through correctly as its quite easy to miss the odd one. This will greatly save yourself time and hassle as you will have to queue up at customer services to get the mistakes sorted.

Anyway, i see that some people are reporting that the prices are already in the system so it should make things a bit easier. I also see that a few people are having a go at the quality - when i first started i was told by one of the managers that quite a lot our lines come from the same factories/suppliers that supply the likes of Next and Burtons! ::)

I've just come back from Matalan......with a big red face! :-[

All the Xmas gifts were reduced and put together in one shelved area. I picked up 2 items that were on a shelf with a 50% off sign but when I got to the checkout, (after queing for ages), they weren't reduced at all.

I asked why they were on the shelf with a large sale ticket beside them and was told it was only selected items that were reduced.

I told them it was a bit misleading really, but they didn't give a toss.

And to round things off, I didn't realise that you had to spend a minimum of £25 to take advantage of the £5 off voucher that was given out with a previous spend. My fault entirely for not reading the thing, but the top I was going to buy purely because I was getting £10 off (2 x vouchers) ended up getting left too. :(

I fell for that one too Aliasojo....

Bought some curtains the other week and made up my spend to receive a second voucher (I remember myself saying to my partner "we only need to spend another fiver to get a fiver back!!") only to be told by the assistant that the vouchers were only useable on transactions of £25 or more - she then added that she thought this was a bit of a con too and the POS was misleading - this was why she felt she should make the terms clear on giving the vouchers out - which was nice of her ....

.....and saved her from getting a piece of my mind) >:(
  • Just checked my £5 voucher and it expires today (23/12) so no using it tomorrow at the start of the sale

Just been in to take back a rope light which worked for 1 day. I had a £5 voucher, but the queues were so long I couldn't be bothered getting something for a fiver. I'm glad i didn't now you've told me i wouldn't have got it anyway unless i'd have spent £25!!
A teenager in with her mum at the refunds desk was going shopping in the store, so i gave her my voucher with a merry xmas wish. she actually skipped when i gave it to her!! It was worth it for cheering me up too! ;D
