I've just checked seatguru. I'm now apprehensive about ebookers owing to the seat allocations. I wonder if it's possible to book with them over the phone so I can see what seats we will be getting, and get them to change if needed. Failing that, there is always the option to change them at check-in, or even on the plane as there is usually a few free. Thanks all.'We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. '

I think the best thing to do is call whoever we book with so we can try and sort this out before getting on the plane. A call to MA might also be in order. I've never had this sort of problem with all my trips I've booked on expedia or opodo, so wonder if it's with certain websites only.'We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. I've flown with both Cathay Pacific and Malaysian to Sydney. Both had superb service - both times in Economy for me, I'm afraid! I'm not sure about the Malaysian lounge at KL (due to me being at the back of the plane with the cattle
), but the showers and food in an airport run lounge were great. Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 #18 £2021.83 declared0 -
Most airline let you make your own seat allocation when you have a confirmed booking, usually about 24 hours after you phoned or made an on-line booking with an agent. In the years BI (before Internet) I'd ring the airline to get a seat allocation.
It's a good idea to join the frequent flier before booking and then get the frequent flier miles for your trip plus many airlines allow you to change your seat allocation on-line. Had a quick visit to Malaysian web site but it is not immediately obvious if you can do that with them.Nice to save.0 -
Thanks all, it looks like we're definitely going with Malaysia. I've found out that it's the refurbished cabin we'll be flying in - a lot of advertising about it on their website - LON-KUL-SYD being a key route for the airline.
We'll call Malaysia when the tickets are booked - can't anticipate any problems. I've gone through various on-line agencies before and never found myself stranded from my friends in some horrible seat.
Very excited now

Hi therel,
Shazrazmataz it sounds like you have been unlucky with Malysia Airlines - I've flown with them several times and all planes have been brand spanking new and the service is amazing... I'd have no hesitation in flying with them again (even if KL isn't that great a stopover!)
Enjoy Sydney!

Dear All
You should all be aware that Malaysian Airlines are currently going through a financial restructuring program. Over 6000 jobs are being shed, loads of international and domestic routes are being dropped. Additionally the Malaysian government will be removing its subsidy.
As for me I'm on probably their last direct flight to Oz out of Manchester on the 30th April. Coming back is more problematic. They've changed the flight numbers and possibly the plane type as well. Additionally I've now got to change at Heathrow unto a BMI plane for the last leg to Manchester. Just one more place were my luggage can vanish!
The worrying thing though is that my travel agent didn't tell me any of this (airline networks). I've had to chase them for every bit of information. It would appear that they don't understand the question "Do I need to do anything?". Anyway it is almost sorted, but with little thanks to them.
