Wrong meter being read! Help

in Water bills
I have had my water bill delivered today and the bill 6 months ago was £97 today I recieved one and it is £180, I phoned up the water company and was told to do a Tap Test, it appears that the meter number on by bill is not the one that is connected to my property. This has been like this since we moved in 18 months ago. I want to know can they charge me for the water I have used, if they can trace it back?

Depends on if they have your meter listed on the system. What you describe sounds like a cross supply and to work that out they need to find out what the meter they have been billing you on supplies.
Have you gone through this with the water company ? Cos your post does not actually say what you did after the tap test. What made you think that it was not your meter etc ?
Where is your meter ? Can you read it ? Can you get the serial number ?There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
