It's handy if you have a gps iPhone as you can now 'locate' it and send messages to it, in case you lose it..

I've had .mac, which has transformed itself into MobileMe.

One thing that I like, is that my contacts on my computer, laptop and mobile are always the same, and my calendars are synchronised across all those devices too.

One final point. The MobileMe subscription only works well with an Apple iPhone, If you end up purchasing an i-phone, which is what some of the knock off chinese versions are called, you probably won't get that working at all.

One final note, I think if you buy it, you get a discount on the first years subscription

Yup but these are usually subsidiary accounts. Basically someone has bought a family subs and will sign you up for a year under their account. You need to give them a username you want and they'll sign it up with a temp password, mail you and then you change the password and it's all done.

It's basically kosher(ish) but it does mean trusting a stranger to set it up.

depends. A full account gives you a lot more space, and an iDisk which is reasonably useful. the mobileme sub does give you webspace as well, and if you've got a mac, and are using iWeb, it integrates really well. you can also put a personal domain onto your mobileme account.

One thing you can do, is sign up for a 60 day trial. Yes you have to give your payment details, but you do get that option.

As for the iPhone, I've got the 32gb 3G S, and the improvements over the old one IMO are brilliant. I went for the PAYG version, on the basis of that I was tied in to my old 3G contract. So, i've only got 6 months left on my contract, ready for the next version when it comes out, and i'll be contract free..

And NYC... aaah, i went in March, and i'm going again in September... can't wait!! :D
