Please help with wireless confusion.

I have a Dell dimension 8300 plugged into a Voyager 105 ADSL modem and I have an account with freenetname 2 mps. I've just been given a Gateway laptop MX6640b and would like details of how I can go wireless.
I went out and bought the wrong thing from Argos - a Linksys USB WUSB54G adaptor.
I am quite hopeless at all this kind of thing. Please tell me what I need to buy. Someone kindly referred me to a whole list of links but I need to know the basics.
For instance, do I need to buy just a router or a wireless modem/router and please recommend one for someone as non-techy as me. Do I then discard my existing ADSL modem completely?

The basics are that you ditch the Voyager 105 modem and buy an ADSL wireless router, which effectively replaces your 105. When you have the Dell connected and working as it was before, you can then connect your laptop to the wireless router but it will need an adaptor to do this. If you look here you should see a Linksys 54g Modem Router and Laptop Card which is the kind of thing that you would need to buy.

You will find many different makes and models that you could also use but that should give you an idea of what you will need to get networked.
