then they would have recorded till six an then recorded the news etc off bbc 2

huh? It was extended?! how would they know to switch channels!

If I was recording it, I'd record it and add a good hour or so on! not second guess which channel it's going to be on.

There would be more of an uproar from people recording it, to find they had switched sides.

If I was setting the recorder I would have believed the schedules and set it to record to 6pm on BBC1, and then set up a second recording for BBC2 from 6pm for a couple of hours to cater for a long match. What I would not have factored into this was the last-minute decision by the Corporation to throw that schedule out of the window and stay on BBC1.

I have now received this reply to my complaint to the BBC :-

Thanks for your e-mail to BBC Complaints.

I understand you noticed that as Wimbledon coverage was to remain on BBC One viewers were advised to switch to analogue to see their regional news programme on BBC Two. I appreciate your concerns this was not possible for some viewers to watch following digital switchover.

We recognise that some areas of the country no longer have analogue transmissions and therefore regret any inconvenience caused to viewers affected.

Regional news programmes were still available online to watch again as normal after broadcast.

BBC One takes the decision to change its schedules very rarely and only after careful consideration of the potential impact on its audiences.
It is ultimately the responsibility of our channel controllers and is based on the expectations and requirements of our audience. Wimbledon is one of the most prestigious events on the British sporting calendar and we also know from experience that this event is watched with great interest by many who don't normally enjoy sport.

BBC One is where viewers come to enjoy great sporting moments of national importance. Andy Murray's match against Andy Roddick was one such occasion. We took the decision as soon as we could to ensure that the maximum number of people could enjoy this nail biting game.

I appreciate you may still continue to disagree with this decision so I'd like to assure you I've registered this complaint on our audience log. This is a daily report of audience feedback that's circulated to many BBC staff, including members of the BBC Executive Board, channel controllers and other senior managers.

All feedback we receive, whether positive or negative, is always valued.

Thanks for taking the time to contact us with your concerns.

OK if you have access to the net so you can view the local news. Hard luck if you don't!

I like this reply by the editor of the Radio Times following complaints about Robin Hood being dropped because of the tennis coverage :-

'We had scores of letters complaining about tennis taking over BBC1; but none from grateful fans who wouldn't have been able to find the Wimbledon coverage had it been moved to BBC2. BBC1 will repeat the final episode of Robin Hood on Saturday at 5.15pm.'

Thus implying that the BBC thinks that the average tennis fan is incapable of changing a TV channel when asked to.
