Graduates 'Could be Jobless For Years'

There's no shame in 'service' as a valet or cook. Girls can go to dough-school then snaffle themselves a hubby and settle down as housewifes.0

I never have (& never will) understood the scramble to get everyone into University & the disdain with which trades are treated.0

The age of graduates somehow being entitled to a great job with great pay straight out of uni is over.
There are not enough jobs to go round, there are too many graduates and the quality of the pool is diminished.
The gravy train hit the buffers a few years ago. The Graduate party is over for many.
The government is limiting new student uni admission numbers this year but is coming under pressure to increase them to prevent vast numbers of sixth form leavers languishing on the dole queue.

If there aren't enough jobs to move into on leaving university, how much point is there in postponing this reality for another few years and with £20k+ debt to boot?0 -
Oh and don't get me started on some of these companies only wanting GCSE's when people of my age and over didn't actually do them as they hadn't been invented when we were at school!
There were GCEs and CSEs though. They were amalgamated into the GCSE. Any decent employer will know how to translate grades into their equivalents today and may well think the earlier qualifications were worth more than they are now too!!
P.S. Sue - you're going for the ' if I can't beat 'em, join 'em ' approach and very well done to you.0 -

I dont have a degree and I'll bet a months wages (or is it salary?) that I'm more likely to get work than many of them!
I think PN was talking generally and on average, rather than specific, one-off examples. I agree with her, I'd prefer to be searching for a job in a downturn with a degree and experience rather than just experience.0 -

Why just girls? I'd be more than happy to go to dough-school (no idea what this is, but I'm imagining making different types of bread, which sounds brilliant) then snaffle myself an executive high flying wife and settle down as a househusband.0 -

Good shout!:TAre the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation? :cool:0 -
