Hi,
just come across a deal at comet :-
unfortunatley I am not allowed as a new member to post link but suffice to say this deal is about a lower specced laptop but in the specs it contradicts itself and specifies an Intel dual core cpu and not an athlon 64
now clearly there is some wrong info here the laptop is up for £259 and is obviousley from one of the images an Athlon 64 based laptop, however if you look at the specs it says intel dual core processor now this is one of the best on the market, also if you look at the second image that clearly shows a built in webcam whereas the first image has no webcam.
My question is this if I were to go into comet armed with a print out of this offer highlighting the ambiguous nature of the offer are comet obliged to give me a higher specced laptop ie the intel dual core model with a built in webcam for the same price as advertised ie £259 I need an answer asap as if that is the case I will be at my local store as soon as they open tomorrow!!!
Many Thanks

If you buy it, I'm sure you're legally entitled to a refund due to the misleading advertising.0

You could try to purchase the laptop, if they return to you one at a more expensive price, you could ask them 'do you price match your website?' the person will go away and ask the manager, he'll say 'yes' in all likelihood. You can then complete the purchase.
However, you cannot go in there and demand or assert your rights to purchase at the price advertised upon the website, or on your printout. as quite simply, you have no right to demand such as they do not have to sell you it at the incorrect price. Infact they do not have to sell to you at all.
If you get away with the purchase as soon as they take your payment. The laptop is yours. They may notice at which point they may try to stop you from leaving, however it's not theft (Offer to treat, Acceptance, Consideration = title changes hands as the shop accepts the money). As you've paid the asking price, you will have a receipt which you will hang onto of course to prevent it getting lost!
Legally they have no rights to do this as they are not the police, they also cannot search you either for the same reason. Infact aiui they cannot legally impede you going about your business either, so you're free to leave should you choose to do so. If you choose to do so, and they say they'll call the police give them your contact details. So the Police can call upon you should they determine to do so, after all you have nothing to hide, it's not an offence to purchase a laptop.
If they successfully impede you then call the police yourself. I would do all of this from the shop floor, they'll more than likely offer to go 'somewhere quiet' which is a room they will feel comfortable detaining you, but as they have no right to do so, you do not have to go. If they again insist, ensure that EVERYONE in the shop knows your being forcibly moved as that's the ONLY way they will get you to the secure location. Ensure that everyone knows the situation, you're being harassed just because you PURCHASED A LAPTOP!
So ultimately, this boils down to how lucky you're feeling, and can you deal with any embarrassment that you may suffer. If you or your parent\s own a business for instance, or a 'known face', then it may 'cost' more than the saving. If however you're under 18, take a parent with you, be sure to tell them the above, to save any surprises.
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -

The answer is no. If its was specced as a Dual Core in the shop you could take it back for a refund although the Athlon sticker on the laptop will still be a bit of a giveaway.
The answer above seems rather confused as to what your plannng to do as it will be priced like that in store.0 -
Hi,
I know the Athlon sticker is a giveaway however my question, to clarify, was merely to ask if a product information was specced up wrong is the retailer duty bound to supply a product as they have described it ie do they have to supply the higher specced machine at the lower specced machines price?? because if they do there will be a flood of customers at comet today!!!
The listing on their web page just proves that whoever writes the speccs up at comet have no idea between a dual core intel and a single core Amd Athlon!!0 -
I bought a laptop from Currys years ago that was advertised with a TV Out Port, got it home and found out it didn't actually have this. Feeling slightly miffed I had a moan at Currys about it who offered either a full refund, or £75 off. I took the £75 off
As it turned out, I had nothing but problems with that laptop and rued the day I didnt take the refund lol0 -

One of my friends was detained in Wilkinsons as they thought they hadn't counted one of the 9 bottles of 'Air Fresheners' that I had asked him to pickup for me. He got the whole 'come with me sir, we just want a word. It's noisy here, how about coming with me to somewhere quieter' where they locked him in a small office untill someone came to see him.
An hour later it was 'we're sorry sir, we realise now that someone must have knocked the price sticker off the shelf, you paid the correct amount'. Please leave! My friend didn't want to push the situation, but then neither will either of us be shopping there ever again.
Had I been there, things would have gone differently obviously. So I can tell you based upon the two instances mentioned, it does infact happen. It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -

That's possibly because if security guards are involved, people have a tendency to think 'none of my business.... I'll just walk a little quicker, they must have stolen something'. If you're stopped by such people, usual reply is to give in and do as they say, save yourself the embarassment and get everything sorted out quietly. They say 'will you come this way' it's only later once you're in a room and they start accusing that people get angry.
