sorry i am sure this has been asked before but i couldnt find it

we are both on o2 on a cashback free 12months that is about ot end.. on shopping around o2 are offering more free 12monrhs which we could sign up to but we want to keep our numbers

am i right in saying we have to take our numbers elsewhere first then take them back to o2??... if this is the case can i take them to a free PAYG sim i have from orange/vodaphone?? and how do i do this.... i assume after a period of a week or so i can then take the number back to 02 for my new deal?

many thanks for your assistance

the day your o2 12months contract ends, call o2 and ask for your PAC code... they'l probabily give you other offers and offer to upgrade you, keep you ears peeled, if you like them, you may just want to upgrade through them, or else say you dont want to upgrade.
    >call up the provider of your PAYG sim and tell them you want to transfer a number, give them your pac code and within 7 working days, the number will be transfered.
    >as soon as its successfully transfered to your PAYG, call up the provider and ask for the PAC code. call up your new provider (your o2), give your PAC code and within 7 working days it'l be transfered

note, you'l have to continue pating o2 untill your number has been tranfsered to your PAYG and you'l probabily have to topup your PAYG £5 or £10... make sure you'v used most of it up by the time the number gets transfered from your PAYG

Alternatively, you could move to an alternative O2 service provider.

For example, if you are with O2 CPWS (Carphone Warehouse Services) then you could port your number to O2 Direct. This will avoid the hassle of temporarily moving to a PAYG on another network.

However, if you upgrade it is very unlikely you will get the equivalent of a 12 months free line rental deal.

Hope that information is of some use.

Can you just ring up and cancel contract straight away once 12 months are up? Do you not have to give a months notice?

Yeah - they usually require 30 days notice; if you are porting your number to a different network - I think the time period is reduced
