Simple and short, laptop got broken after someone walking into the wire and it falling off of the table in the garden.
Mum and dad have house insurance/contents insurance with Nationwide.
I know that the excess is £75, but what is the story with claiming?

- How long would it take to go through and a new laptop issued (I work with computers and there is no way it can be fixed)?
- Will the premium go up for renewal?
- If so, how much will it go up by?
- If so, is there any tips to renewing to get a similar deal so the premium doesnt go up?
- I paid £670 for this laptop, would they give me £670 to go and buy a new one?

quite a funny one but last year i had a very nice sony vaio laptop
my daughter erm wee'd on it lol........... long story
anyways i called insurance they had someone collect the laptop for inspection to repair etc, they then said couldnt be repaired and i got a credit to use in pc world currys etc so i bought myself a nice new laptop.
if i remember correctly only took a month
my home insurance to be honest didnt even go up0 -
Was it for same value or same spec? How did it work?
Andy0 -
they looked up prices of similar spec machines and agree a price, in my case they gave me £1000
to be honest i was quite impressed they didnt try palm me off or say my laptop was worth nothing, my laptop was also a used item when i bought it and i told them that, it didnt make any difference
im a big fan of direct line i think they are superb0 -
Mine was £670 new and has a spec of:
dual core 1.6 core 2 duo processor
4gb ram
15.4" screen
dvd-re-writer
120gb hard drive
wi-fi
bluetooth
So pretty feature packed to be honest.

you will be fine just pay the excess and play the waiting game lol0

What if they do want to put the premium up?
Does switching insurers pay off?
Andy0 -
if they do it will be only a little, surely thats better than paying £600 odd for a new laptop???0
-
Not me paying the premium, tis dad who doesn't want to do it, so i lose out on £670 it seems.

so why have you got the insurance in the first place? just bung ya dad £50 for the increase, im sure it wont even bne that much if anything
surely being your dad he wouldnt have a problem anyway doing the claim? after all it was accidental and thats what its there for and covers0 -

He's afraid that something of his would break and it would hinder it as he'd already claimed on something of mine.
Selfishness tbh
