Yup I said I would call them back. Thanks for the advice, will check what else is out there. Everyone is telling me horrible things about United Economy!! Somewhat irritating as could have got BA for same price originally, will see how their sale is anyway.

The flights are in September FYI. I fly out on the 10th, and the Chicago route gets cancelled on 13th, I'm back on 14th...

OK so I paid £280 originally.

I can go similar dates with BA for £309. Do you think it's worth that £29 extra to go BA over VA then United? Sorry I don't know much about transatlantic airlines!

Also some one has suggested I try to get them to upgrade me to economy plus if it's with united or to try to get onto Continental.

    Thanks for the advice!

Not for the Virgin leg, but I would happily pay a £29 premium for BA over United. I would still be pushing VS to pay for the reroute themselves.

Would you consider ending your holiday a day early to come back on Virgin (assuming there is availability)?

I'll eat my hat if VS rebook you into Economy+.

I sure as hell would not get stressed out worrying about 8 hours flying  you will be alseep for maybe 6 of them :rotfl:

With so little traffic in the air you might get a row of seats to yourself anyway ?

United are no better no worse than any of the others, they take off they land and you get fed and watered. :D.

Hey Neil - how did you get on?

Teahfc - to me 8 hours of flying is a lot. I'm not used to it and wanted to be as comfortable as possible. Also it's quite a lot of money for me to spend, so don't want to not get what I paid for.

    Called them earlier.
As I booked with airmiles the only thing they would do is refund my miles / fees. A refund that will take up to a month!
I asked about transferring to another carrier and this was a no go.

    Not impressed.

I can get JFK - LHR return for the same miles / money but it's the hassle of getting to New York :(

    Happy days...

Just FYI (and I'm basing this on the assumption that you were flying Virgin - an EU airline).

It doesn't matter if you paid with pounds, lire, airmiles or chocolate buttons. You are still entitled to your protection under EU261/2004, which gives you the right to choose refund or rerouting.

Good that you are happy with the outcome, but yet more disinformation coming from the industry.

Thanks for that Rich. Good information to know.
I did get the impression they were making it up as they went (kept putting me on hold to check with supervisors) but they weren't budging
