Hi
I have a question - I am a technophobe - I have received an email response to an error email I sent to Microsoft. Says it is from Microsoft Online Crash Analysis - response (which I think is genuine) - says Virus alert: likely that I have
Wind32/Apropos.B/WinNT/Zufyx.A/Spyware.Apropos.C/Trojan.Win32.Crypt.t
Suggests how to remove, my visiting http://safety.live.com/ in safe mode.
Okay - have tried this - but I can't access the internet in safe mode despite loading dial up internet connection onto my pc.
I have today lost all my inbox - it crashed last night whilst compacting.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
Valerie

Hi,
I am not an expert -
but from the message it looks more like a spyware than virus to me. What antivirus/spyware protection have you got? if you haven't got any i would highly recommend AVG (virus) and spybot, ad-aware, ms anti-spyware (all anti-spyware)
one thing that i don't understand is why should you have to connect to their system to remove this when this job can be safely handled by the above
hope this helps,0 -
Thanks for your reply - yes I have AVG - AVG shows that I have a number of viruses but isn't able to deal with them. As it has been explained to me, (technophobe) it is on the ?set up of the computer, ie behind the scenes which is why AVG can't wipe it and why I have to go into safe mode to rid myself. Not sure I can explain more than that.

Going into safemode stops a lot of running proccesses so that you PC isnt
or maybe not running the same proccesses that the virus may use or attach
itself to in simple terms.
Always run an AVG full scan in safemode, to get into safemode on the Startup of the PC tap the F8 button and follow the onscreen instructions you may have to use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select Safe Mode only, then run a scan.
If its Spyware AVG isnt for that you would need to run Spybot Search and Destroy or Adaware or Windows Defender
Just remeber only run one Antivirus program on your PC but you can have quite a few spyware or adware removal programs on your PC I reccomend a scan with spybot search and destroy is a must.0 -
i wouldnt realy recomend connecting to the internet whilst in safemode because your firewall wont be active. download this:http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/aproposfix.exe and http://dw.com.com/redir?pid=10401314&merid=104443&mfgid=104443<ype=dl_dlnow&lop=link&edId=3&siteId=4&oId=3040-8022_4-10401314&ontId=8022_4&destUrl=http://www.download.com%2F3001-8022_4-10401314.html . install the 2nd program and do a update. do a update on AVG and windows update.
restart in safemoderun the program you just downloaded (aproposfix.exe), Spybot s&d and AVG.
restart in normal mode and it should be alright0 -
I didnt think it possible to get online in safemode as connections arent available0

can probabily do "safe mode with networking" (never tried it, only seen the option)... but firewall and AV wont be on, and you'l get bombarded with viruses, worms, spyware and adware!0

system restore mite be holding spyware or viruses in the folder could turn that off? but dont forget to turn it back on!!!!!!dont drink and drive:beer:

Going to https://www.symantec.com and use there online virusscanner (free) might help. I used it and it threw virusses of an old computer off easily. Since a few months I use bullguard, available through https://www.bullguard.com. Didn't get one virus while using it. Used it on a computer of a friend too and it detected and removed a virus without a problem. You can use its demo, fully functional, for free for 3 months. Maybe worth to try. You would have to remove AVG first for any other programm, except for the online symantec scan. When bucks meet brains, the child's name will be Profit.0

download and run ewido, and then AVG, you do not seem to have Spyware so ignore the other software mentionedEx forum ambassador
