HELP! Setting up unlocked phone to use 3 Skype!

Hiya
Okay, my situation:
1)I have a Nokia 6650 3G phone, previously a T-mobile phone that has been unlocked.
2)I installed Skype on the phone and managed to log onto Skype (sort of), I'm not sure if all the settings are correct, got some settings text to me by 3.
3)Now I tried to phone the test number called "echo" on Skype but it keeps phoning a local number and since I do not have a balanceon my PAYG service it doesn't work....is this supposed to happen. I thought it would just phone for free by using the 3G network or something like.

ANY advice would be appreciated!!! Many thanks

Do 3 not have to add a Skype bundle to your acc for you to use the system ?

3 have never sold the 6650, i believe it was a t-mobile exclusive, currently the only phones that will work with skype are 3 branded handsets, or if you have one that 3 have sold previously then you can apply the correct settings. 3 are opening up skype to all unlocked 3g handsets later this year.

The 3 free Skype service relies on a special client on the phone - one specifically designed for 3 - the reason being the way Skype works on 3 is that a 3 Skype phone calls a specially designated free number to get through to the Skype gateway, so that it's not reliant on data connections. Only the official 3 Skype client has this number programmed, so you will have to try and find a copy of it.

The Java client you can download from the Skype site is similar, but uses a different phone number, one that isn't free - hence the reason you can't get through if you have no credit. You MUST have the official 3 version for free calls to work.

AFAIK there isn't a data-only Skype client for S60, if you want this you might want to investigate fring instead, but you will need a data plan. It's actually much better and cheaper to use 3's client instead if you can get it.
