Having read the recent press articles re Wolstenholmes, I am very happy to see that they will finally get their comeuppance. However, what saddens me is to see other firms (which look to be built on a similar model to Wolstenholmes) now trying to take their place. I was tempted to use Fridays Property Lawyers, until I read their terms of business. They give you a small quote to pull you in and then charge hundreds of pounds extra which is in the small print. I am no expert, but looking at some extras, they are more than likely to arise in a purchase/sale. I have taken out small sections only because the terms of business are so long, namely:
Extracts from Fridays Property Lawyers Terms of Business
"Our fixed fee covers all conventional work associated with the conveyance of a freehold or leasehold house. If the property transpires to be a leasehold flat/maisonette, we reserve the right to charge a leasehold supplement of £174 plus VAT.(If your written quotation form our marketing team doesn’t refer to this fee than you may assume it has been waived )"
"The Caseworker who has conduct of your file of papers is not a Solicitor or Licence Conveyancer unless we have specifically told you otherwise in our initial letter to you. Your Caseworker, whilst not being a Solicitor or Licensed Conveyancer will, in our view, have the requisite experience and, in certain circumstances, the appropriate legal academic qualifications to conduct your file of papers."
"Please note that for the benefit of all our clients it is essential that we run an appointment system for seeing clients. Please do not hesitate to telephone to make an appointment to see your Caseworker. We regret that we will not be able to see you without an appointment. If we do see you without an appointment an additional fee of £85 plus VAT will apply to your final invoice."
"In the case of exchanges of contracts for new build properties, 75% of the quoted fee will be payable upon exchange of contract and will be requested together with any relevant deposit monies payable to the developer/seller."
"We aim to charge you exactly what we quote you. However, sometimes matters arise which are not normally part of the conveyancing process and for which we have to make an additional charge. We will not contact you in advance of carrying out such additional work, unless you confirm in writing that you wish us to do so. This is in order to ensure that your property transaction proceeds as quickly as possible to completion. Some items occur more often than others and for these items we have standard fees which are set out below.;

This whole thing is very dodgy- how many partners were there in the firm? And what was Helen Murgatroyd's role at the firm- handling of complaints it seems?
Well, my two e-mails of official complaint were returned to me marked "deleted and unread" on 18th December by Ms. Murgatroyd. So much for her being the person to complain to0 -
Have you not all began to realise from the company report. Bilal Khwaja appinted member in 06/09, B Shabbir appointed member in 07/09, I Husseyn appointed member in 09/09, H Murgattroyd appointed member in 2009. Imagine how much money Nasir Ilyaas has cashed in from all these people and then in 09/09 he has resigned himself. Boy, you are a clever sod. Robbed innocent peoples money, then cashed in money from 5 new members. Nasir Ilyaas you got the last laugh.0

is this the same nasir ilyas who was involved in a scam a few years ago with the purchase of pilsworth industrial estate.0

I'd like to know more about this and does anyone know if Nasir Ilyas can start any new ventures whilst under investigation or if he's already trading under a new name.
Can anyone tell me how one can search out this kind of info ?0 -
If Mr Hussain wants to put himself out there as the spokes person for Wolstenholmes he could do one better and give me my F~@#ing money back.
I personally dealt with Imran and therefore that gives me the right to blame him for everything. His lack of integrity and conscience has put me on the brink of a breakdown. How much money is he missing tonight? I have £41,000 pounds missing and no home, he deserves everything and more, Godbless him.
Er, yes Simply Me ... Fare do's. I think that gets the message across loud and clear.
Wish you all the very best in getting your money, home and peace of mind back soon.0 -
I haven't had any dealings with WH, but have been following the threads and would like to add my good wishes to everybody affected -- really hope it works out for you all, and quickly.
Since a number of posts mention Nasir Ilyas, I had a look round to see what I could find. Nothing directly related to the latest mess (except these threads), but just a bit of background in case it's of any interest -- he seems to move in fairly high places and evidently has political aspirations.

Blimey, according to the Garstang Courier he ( Nasir Ilyas ) tried to become a Labour MP on the 4th December 2009.
Burnley and Oldham have enough problems with the BNP being elected without having Mr Ilyas helping them along by leading the opposition.
With MP's like him, who needs Enemies.0 -
