Is the length of warranty important on a laptop?

Companies like Dell and HP usually only give 1 years' warranty whereas the likes of Mesh and Evesham give 2 or even 3. With them being more compact and (presumably) running hotter than desktops, is it far more important that they be under guarantee for longer?

I've never known anyone to have a problem with a laptop until recently when a friends HP died but it was still under warranty so it wasn't to bad. I would think it probably is slightly more important then a desktop as you can look at those yourself or get someone else to fix them relatively cheaply/easily, not quite so easy with a laptop but I would personally say they are just as reliable because they are built to withstand the extra heat and knocking around etc. Personal choice really if you like safety go for one with a longer warranty but I would go for the one I wanted and then look at the warranty for it.[FONT=georgia, bookman old style, palatino linotype, book antiqua, palatino, trebuchet ms, helvetica, garamond, sans-serif, arial, verdana, avante garde, century gothic, comic sans ms, times, times new roman, serif]A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don't need it

I'm of the opinion that in most cases, if something's going to go wrong, then it will happen quite early, and usually within the first year. Or if you're like me then within the first 5 minutes.0

A warrenty is only good if the laptop fails hard drive optical drive motherboard, you will find that the battery is usually only covered for 6 months
The most likley problem with a laptop is that you drop it and break somthing they will not fix this under warrenty for them to fix that you require insurance which will also cover it if it is stolen.
I bought a Gericom laptop decent spec but huge and not very portable I nocked it off the bed and the plastic part of the lid near the hinge on the screen started to crack I contacted the company and told them they sent a courier and collected it replaced the lid and returned it to me within 4 days.0 -
If you are going to carry it with you regularly or occasionally to places, get a warranty.
If it's only going to be used as a space saving desktop, don't bother.
 If you are angry about something, let it be known....... :wall:If I fail to thank you individually, I am sorry. Your advice was appreciated but may not have been 100% the result I was after.
