Just while I am on I mean to ask you all for advice, I have decided to create a reading hamper for my dad this year and apart from a selection of books I was going to add a nice bookmark, book light then I draw a blank. Can you think of anything else I could add?

Is there anything that he likes to do whilst enjoying a good book? For example I like to snuggle up with a cosy blanket and a big mug of hot chocolate whilst reading a book on a cold winters evening, so in a reading hamper I would love a blanket and a mug with some snowman soup or similar.

What sort of books is he into? If he likes quite "serious" stuff then maybe something like the Times Literary Supplement?

    Husband:
Rugby hamper (containing Welsh rugby book, Welsh rugby DVD and whatever else I find to go in it!)

Hi helyg! If your husband is a Welsh rugby fan, you should try and get him a Gren calendar. The 2010 one is not out yet, but will be soon - it costs £7.99 but it's brilliant. Gren was the rugby cartoonist in the South Wales Echo for many years.

(The Gren rugby addicts board game looks great too)

I found some audio books (books on CD, that is) in The Works quite cheaply recently, which I added to a reading hamper for my mother in law's birthday. That might be another idea for your hamper.

Also, how about a miniature of scotch (or whatever your Dad drinks, if he does) and a glass etched with his initial? The pound shops also sometimes sell A4 sized magnifying sheets which are handy for enlarging text.

    Hi all!

Not posted on this thread yet - been on the Thrifty Gifty one - but been reading throughout!

Just wanted to add with regards to the Welsh Rugby discussion (also from Wales!! Bore da!!), what about a Grogg? They can be quite expensive, but the smaller ones arn't so bad, and you might be able to find some on ebay? Do a search for the Grogg Shop and see what they have.

Merry Christmas everybody!! (Feels like it with this weather today!! lol)

I have nowhere to stash all my bits, some are under the bed but DD is always under their chasing her kitten.

I have stuff in bags in the office but all DS has to do is have a look in the bag and im busted.

We dont have a loft either so i cant stash it all up there.

Im hoping to be all bought and wrapped up by mid october - then i shall have to stay well away from the grabbit thread, to stop me spending more like last year.

That way in december we can do all those christmassy things like visit santa, check out all the houses in the area that are lit up instead of me rushing to buy last minute presents. Spend quality time visiting the family.

Just out of curiosity when do you all put your tree and decorations up?

Im usually itching to get them up on the 1st december, once i have seen 1 other person with their tree up that gives me a green light to do mine.
Although 1 year it did go up about the 20th november after my DS birthday party decorations had been taken down as the house looked so bare.

This will be our 1st christmas at home - i have always been to my mums and she has cooked dinner, but we have decided now that our own family is getting bigger that we want to spend it at home. Im panicking as i have never cooked a full christmas dinner before, im not the best person with roasts as it is. Plus i dont want too spend all day in the kitchen cooking i want to be with my kids, but DF has suggested that we just have a simple lunch like beans on toast, or pie & mash lol. But it just wouldnt be the same.
