Rice yes - pasta no unless it is in a sauce.
The best thing to think is can I buy this as a ready meal? If you can, you can freeze it.
I make and freeze sandwiches for the week and just take them out the night before. Saves loads of time.
I also roast chicken and strip it in one go and freeze all the meat so that if I need some say for sandwiches, or curry or whatever I can go in and grab a handful.0 -
Oh I also freeze meat balls - make with mince, garlic, chilli, breadcrumbs and an egg. Make into balls and freeze raw or cook completely and then freeze. Take them out when you get up and then pop them into a pasta sauce to heat through.0

Hi everyone!
I am going away for work in a few weeks and want to make some home cooked meals to freeze for my boyfriend to eat while I'm gone - otherwise he will spend a fortune on takeaways! Does anyone have any good ideas for meals that freeze well?
Also a few other Qs:
Are there any foods that do not freeze well - I heard potatoes?
Is it tastier to reheat once thawed or straight from frozen? Covered/uncovered?
Any specific ones that incorporate the veg as I know he won't be bothered to cook any himself?
Thank you all suggestions will be of help!!
By the way I need suggestions with oven reheating not microwave as I do not have one!
Thank you!0 -
Hi
You might be better off posting this on the OS board you'll get tons of replies!
Do you have a hob? Most things could be reheated on the hob
When I went into hospital for a while I made OH big batches of chilli, curry and bolgonese and froze them into portions. You could do lasagne, stew, casserole that you could heat in the oven - I always defrost stuff but that's just me.A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
Where does the time go? :think:0 -
Hi,
Casserole is a good one-I usually do chicken, but you could do any meat. and you can add as mauch veg as you like! I would defrost it first, and it can either be haeted up in the microwave for a few minutes or in a saucepan on the hob, just make sure it is piping hot all the way though before eating it!0 -
Cooking for the freezer
Building blocks for the freezer
Using the search engine (to help you find out about specific foods)
The Old style board is fantastic, and there is always someone there willing to help!
I would fully safely defrost the foos overnight in the fridge, and cook - depending on what it is. I would reheat stew in a pot, or looseley covered in the micro.
Almost any food freezes well - i have a really good book (british gas Old style), and if you list specific stuff you are thinking of freezing, I can look it up and see the best suggestions. I am relatively new to freezing everything but it is a godsend.
Eg - I recently froze natural yog in ice cubes for curries, fresh herbs, cream, milk, grated cheese, cooked chicken, leftover stock from soup. etc.
Ask specifics, and im sure someone could help. I imagine this will be moved to the OS board anyway.
I would make soups, chillis, spag bol, sausage casserole, pasta sauces and stews. All these reheated in a pot (just noticed no m icro), to very hot. Bob's your uncle. All he needs to cook is pasta, rice, etc.
You could refridgerate some mash potatoes or freeze mashA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
