There's some irony in there alright! Never fear, and get browsing in here. Lots of inspiration to be found.A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Ok, so not to sound silly but:
You cook your meal (spag bol) THEN freeze. So it's already been cooked and THEN frozen. Then you defrost it and reheat? Or what?
I wanna do this at uni so just want to double check

I live on my own most of the time ( have 4 sons + girlfriends that appear now and then) and I still cook meals large enough to feed a whole family. I had years of cooking for 6, plus girlfriends, so large quantities are second nature to me. The bonus for me now though is my method creates one for today, one for tomorrow and several single sized portions for the freezer. I can take a portion out of the freezer as I leave for work and it will be defrosted and ready to reheat by the time I need it.0

iv been lurking on here for a while now reading other peoples suggestions and find it so interesting...
anyway today we got a new fridge freezer and its twice the size of our normal one so iv decided to batch make some things that i can freeze for on days when you just cant be bothered cooking.... iv looked on her and i cant find a thread all about batch cooking??
does anyone have any recipes that are ok to be frozen and still taste nice once defrosted and eaten??
id love some soup and anything else really? or if anyone can point me in the right direction... im quite a good cook but tend to stick to what i know but would love to try more things as embarisingly my 2 year old son has a better diet than me lol
thanks in advance

Hi Jamiesmum
welcome to MSE!
My favourite dishes for batch cooking are chilli, curry, shepherds pie, soup, liver and onions with bacon and any type of pie.
Hope this helps, i think that you will find that once you get started you`re freezer will fill up in no time.

hi jamiesmum  this is a link to the recipe index thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=8736367#post8736367 there are threads there re batch cooking & also some on freezing
for batch cooking, I just double or treble up on the quantities of the original recipe.
I tend to batch cook minced beef & use it in lasagne, cottage pie etc. I do fish pie into individual portions but cook 8 at a time and I also bake a couple or 3 cakes at a time and freeze them in halves. soups I cook & freeze are celery, carrot & coriander, leek & potato and chicken & veg.
I'm sure you'll get loads more replies0 -
Hiya jamiesmum
Like Chris25 I just double everything I cook normally, such as Fishcakes, Stews, pies, lasagne, bolognaise sauce, shepherds pie, lentil and bacon soup, apple and parsnip soup, chicken soup, vegetable soup etc and I always have a pot of freshly made HM chicken stock.
I also do cakes that last for lunch boxes, HM bread and rolls.
Oh and if I have any stale bread I turn it into breadcrumbs and freeze them too.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
