Uhh.. I simply suggested bringing it up because in my experience if you sound like you know what you're talking about most shop-zombies will take your word for it! As I said in the very same post goods should be expected to last a reasonable amount of time and if they don't you have a case to have them repaired.
I also don't recall telling anyone I was the King of advice and ignore what anyone else says!
Tell you what though Hudson, since I'm such a n00b and all, how about you give me your phone number so I can call you up every time I'm going to give advice and make sure it is Hudson approved?
I was once given a full refund for an order I had made with Apple after they messed me about over a faulty MacBook. Plus the let me keep everything from the order! I can only wonder what I'll be getting when I'm pro like you!0 -
Many thanks to all of those who have replied.
Seems to me best option to write to Head Office, thanks ABH, and see what happens next.
Will let you know what happens, as othersmay be entering the `dark world` of Comet aftersales.
Thanks again0 -

Wanting to sound like you know what you're talking about is a superb reason not to bring up that particular EU directive when you're in the UK.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -

I think you over estimate the intelligence of your average comet sales employee.
In any case are you aware by any chance that the UK is part of the EU? Are you aware that all member states must comply with EU directives unless they are expressly excluded within the text? Are you aware that EU directives are designed to give an outline of an expected result and not necessarily an exact guide on how it should be achieved?
To my knowledge everything in that previous paragraph is true and in addition I am not aware of directive 1999/44/EC being repealed, replaced or amended. Based on this it appears to me that directive 1999/44/EC is applied to the UK as it is everywhere else. I also point you to the following quite from the text1999/44/EC wrote:a guarantee of at least 2 years for new goods (or longer if the Member State wishes) where the seller will undertake without extra charge to reimburse the price paid or to replace and/or repair consumer goods if they do not meet the specifications set out in the guarantee statement or relevant advertising.
So based on all this, from what I gather, since the product is only 14 months old it falls under the directive IN ADDITION to any UK laws regarding warranty / quality of sold goods.
That is how it works as I see it, if any of that happens to be incorrect please feel free to correct me. Why is it that every time I post on MSE I get attacked left right and center by everyone and anyone over every little thing!?0 -

if you know as much as you think you do then you would know that mentioning that eu crap is a complete waste of time
just stick to soga
even if soga had only come about after this directive and only met its bare standards, you would still quote soga, the relevant uk law and not the directive it derived from
eu laws should only be quoted as regulations decisions or treatysBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Consumer direct will probably advise you as they did me to pursue retailers using sale of goods act and not the EU directive0

but why exactly am I being treated as if I burst onto this thread claiming to be the love child of Martin Lewis and Jesus? Did I ever claim to be some kind of super genius? Did I ever imply that my advice should be taken over others? No!
Sorry for trying to help! I'll keep my mouth shut in future!0 -
Please keep quiet Delta....you were wrong!0
-
Did I ever say I wasn't? Could you please point out where I was wrong so I know for future reference?0
