Michael Jackson Tickets Refund Issue

Hi, I purchased 2x MJ tickets on ebay 3 months ago for
my brother in law who was then devastated when the news broke that he died on the 25th June. I waited until it was announced that the ticket office would issue refunds and then sent an email via ebay to the seller to ask what they were going to do, but they appear to be ignoring my messages. As I paid via paypal over 45 days ago I can't open a dispute so does anyone know what I can do about this? It seems really awful that this person may rip us off, especially under the circumstances.
Many thanks in advance for any helpful advice you can give,
Liz

Firstly let your seller know you want a refund, give them a few days to sort it out.
You may also want to check the ebay community boards as there is a promise on there that all buyers will get refunds, the time limit though isn't given.
If that doesn't work and you funded payment by credit card start a chargeback for item not received. Or alternatively wait and read the other threads all over MSE and see what other buyers are doing as you may need to go to small claims at some point. I would persue this though and not give up until you have a refund.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I purchased 4 MJ tickets, as much as i want the tickets it seems very expencive for pieces of paper. Yes they may go up in value, but that is not the point. I paid to see MJ. Can it be legal for AEG to to say either have the ticket or a refund? The tickets must have been printed by now and basically charging people around £80 for a piece of paper seems a con. People paid around £80 to see a concert and keep the ticket, it seems AEG are just out to make money. If the tickets had been sent out before Michael had died, would they be asking for the tickets back? No is the answer, they would just refund. Would it not be right or fair to give an 80% refund if you want to keep the ticket? Surly if you keep the ticket (so you dont get a refund) all you have to do is then contact your credit card company to say you want a refund as the concert is not going ahead and they will give you a chargeback, or would it not work that way?0

Well it all really depends on the terms & conditions.
Even so, you can either expect to receive the item you paid for or your money back.
You are right. Most people didn't pay 80 quid for a piece of paper - they wanted to see someone perform that is no longer possible to do.
So the offer of a refund is correct.
But if you did pay 80 quid for a piece of paper, they are allowing you that option too as I understand it.
You can't expect your money back and the item you purchased.
Chargebacks on credit cards (a) rely on the supplier allowing the credit card company to collect the payment and (b) rely on the card holder not committing fraud by claiming something was not supplied when it was."Now to trolling as a concept. .... I cant see the problem.
If you want a refund, get it. Or is it that you want a refund and the tickets and then hope they go up in value and you get something for nothing.
If they had sent the tiskets out I would assume that they would want the tickets back .
Sorry to the OP but none of this helps you, I read somewhere else that paypal were refunding all buyers of MJ tickets and then chasing the seller.0 -

AEG didn't carry insurance so their estimated £80 million exposure has had the corporate bean counters tearing their hair out, trying to minimise the loss.
That's why they've come up with the idea of saying hey, here's your chance to buy an actual ticket, now with a special hologram (or whatever) because it'll be even more valuable in years to come than, er, a second hand Woolworths Catalogue.
'Course, if you're daft enough to go along with that, then fine.
All it means, in effect, is that the ticket you wanted before the singer's death is now the ticket you've got.
As to whether AEG is legally bound to give you the ticket and a refund, then no: to get the refund you'd have had to return the ticket, the same as with any other purchase (you can't go to M&S and say, hey, give me my £19.99p back and by the way, I'm keeping the jumper.)
Best advice would be to take up the refund option but do it soon, because anyone who fails to let AEG know of their preference within the next month or so will likely find themselves stuck with a load of hologrammed tat instead of the cash.
As to the hundreds of thousands of tickets that doubtless will finish up in the hands of either the raving bonkers or the completely inert, the very fact that there will be hundreds of thousands shows just how "rare", "unique" and "collectible" the damn things truly are.0 -

Admittedly most are just undated on the heads side and I've a pocketful of them already.
But still they mostly seem to be selling at over face value, even more so when you consider the postage charge too

I know. Depressing, isn't it?
I try to remain oblivious to eBay stats because the auction site is -- inadvertently -- a useful barometer of the seemingly remorseless rise of morons in the UK population.
I also try to forget that they all have a democratic right to vote. Or sit on juries.

'You can't expect your money back and the item you purchased'.
Maybe this sounds really stupid, but I wont be getting the item I purchased. If MJ had not died, I would have been sent the ticket and seen him in concert, after the concert I would obviously have the ticket to keep. Would it not be fair for the tickets to be sent out and only receive a £60 refund? The tickets do not cost £80 to produce. If the tickets were sold for double the cost they cost to produce, the fans would get thier tickets and AEG would still make some money. It seems wrong for them to make a mass profit after MJ has died. They obviously dont have to pay MJ for performing, so they are being greedy. What will happen to the tickets if everyone wants a refund?? Will AEG bin them or burn them? No they would more than likely sell them on somewhere. I have tried calling Ticketmaster for my refund, but have spend over 2 hours trying to actually speak to someone, but am always told to hold the line. Have send emails, but no reply. How can I get my refund if I can not get through to Ticketmaster?0 -
pbs there will be thousands of people in the same boat as you trying to claim refunds for their tickets, and I can see Ticketmaster's operators being swamped with calls. I suspect in the end it's going to take a LOT of patience as Ticketmaster start working through all the calls they're getting.0

Admittedly I'm not a great concert goer, but every one I have been to I've had to hand the ticket in, or at least part of it.
Is it usual now to see a concert and keep the full ticket???
For all other concerts, if you want a refund (and the terms allow one) you normally have to return the ticket in full. Why should a MJ concert be any different?"Now to trolling as a concept. ....
