No BT line - what is best internet deal?

I want to get the internet at home, but don't have a BT line. The previous owners had Virgin, so there is still a Virgin socket at the flat, though I have read on this website that Virgin doesn't offer the most competitive deals, so I have been put off from signing up with them?
On a bit of whim, when I saw that the BT free line installation offer was ending on June 30, I decided to sign up to have one installed. This also means I have to pay £11.25 a month for rental and it's an 18 month contract.
But now I need to get the internet on top, and am now wondering if it would just have been cheaper to opt for Virgin in the first place?
I don't necessarily need a home phone or cable tv, and may be moving within the next 12 months, so am wondering whether to cancel the BT installation before the engineer comes out, as this does tie me into an 18 month contract.
I would really appreciate advice, as I really don't know how to get the best internet deal without having a BT line and being tied into an 18 month contract?
Thanks Sue

If you dont want a phone line or tv ,consider Virgin Media Cable Broadband only.
