Had my Sony T-300 nicked yesterday and need a new camera to replace it - any good recommendations? I don't mind spending £200-300 for a good camera as I take lots of pics when out with friends. Thanks for any advice in advance

We bought an Olympus Mju 850 http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?hl=en&q=olympus+mju+850&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=17557149905428958563&ei=_-5MSqbYAsihjAes7JDGBQ&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=4#ps-sellers and it is fantastic. We have managed to get some great close up shots using the macro facility (I can put one online if anyone is interested in the quality). My husband has some super duper thing and the pics this mju takes equals the quality of those and it not only cheap but you can use it underwater, drop it, get it wet - for us it is the perfect family camera. I paid £119 from PC World and added the 3 year warranty for £19.99. I'd recommend it to anyone.0

I thought I would share a couple of the pics we took on the Olympus camera with you. The butterfy one I took a long way away and cropped it down to this, the rest were on Macro in the garden:
Butterfly
Damselflies
Damselfly
Also, I saw a grass snake and caught it on camera, I could not see it that well in the grass but you can see it in the pic:

You can't go wrong with another Sony or Nikon (Nikon use Sony sensors).“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I have a Canon Powershot G9. Best camera I've ever owned. It's a bit bulkier however so might not be suitable for what you require it for.0

For a compact you can't go wrong with the Canon Ixus range, always winning the labs and review tests. I keep one as a snap camera and works very well (and considering I normally do pro shoots with a DSLRs it's fair praise.)
For a "bridge" camera the Canon G9 or G10 are as good as it gets. Might get one for travelling...
DSLRs Canon and Nikon are easily the most flexible.

and not a lot compares in terms of bang for buck! 10.10 megapixel, Carl Zeiss lens, 5x optical zoom, smile shutter, very compact and simple intuitive menus, also 28 to 140mm lens which is wider than most!
