    The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

    They still have cakes and pastries, and pizza...so maybe they've just renamed it?:confused:

    Just played $40

    Got up to $150

    Last hand - 10,9 hearts.

    Flop = 9, 8, 5

    3 players left

    One goes all in ($63), other one calls, and I call

    Next card = 2

    Player 2 checks and Im thinking I got the highest pair so I may aswell raise and get beat by player 1 but take player 2's stack.

    Last card = 10!!!

    Player 2 goes all in and I obviously follow.

    Player 1 = low 2 pair
    Me = Highest 2 pair
    Player 2 = straight and winner

    Thrilling game but Im down another $40. Next play will be Monday Night.

    Been reading for a while and don't often post but off to Vegas tomorrow so will report back with any money saving tips (Virgin Flights - £370 return in the sale and Mirage 10 nights for $800). Used restaurant.com for a couple of $50 restaurant vouchers for $6 each, both are restaurants at mandalay bay so hoping that works out well. Can recommend allvegaspoker.com if you are into poker.

    I've been playing poker for about 4 years and the last 2 years reasonably seriously so thought I'd ask what the games are like? Where are you playing?

    Good luck and will report back in a couple of weeks
  • Hi mate,

    Ive just been playing $1/$2 no limit poker at the MGM Grand.

    But every Casino in Vegas has poker tables that are just the same and offer limited and no limit play.

    MGM also has tournament poker, which is approx. $80 for 1000 chips. Each round lasts 20 minutes and there are quite a few rounds (total about 4 hours per tourney). Depending on the amount of players, the funds are split amongst the top 4, 5 and even 6 players with the winner taking 40% of the pot.

    I havent played a tournament yet but I have been very successful in winning over $100 per $40 played. That said, I havent been sharp enough to walk away, which is why I am down instead of $600ish up.

    The last hand described was pure unlucky but it was very entertaining.

    I'm sad about Sugar and Ice - we were just talking about their chili dogs and how much I was looking forward to having another one next trip. :(

    Loved the report, Triker - I was sorry to hear about the loss of the car keys (one of my biggest holiday-related fears) and the crazy German guy...but loved reading the report.

    I am really craving In-n-Out now. We've never yet tried Fatburger as we love In-n-Out so much, we're pretty sure we would be disappointed.

    We also love our WalMart trips. :)

    1Tipping

    Ive started to tip like a local - 10% on any service - it's more than enough.

    Discounted Books

    Bought one of those LVA discount books mentioned on the thread a few pages back. They have a special on $12 for 3 months and you get the 2009 book. We took a taxi out to the main building (Huntington Press) and bought the book over the counter - havent used any of the vouchers yet.

    Not to start a tipping debate, but I wouldn't say tipping 10% is tipping 'like a local'. :) Remember that waiters and waitresses make less than minimum wage - that's why service is so good in the US - the better the service, the better their tips.

    good to know they have a special on LVA again. they used to have a $10 deal from October and you got that year's coupon book - it was a great deal, but they stopped it a few years ago (presumably because people like us who went in November just waited until the sale to join).
