Well, if you do have to make that decision, at least you have the particular vet you know and trust there to help you ... plus, you also know that your little cat has received all the medical help she possibly could have immediately ... there's not been any waiting about when they found out that she was having breathing problems .. they put her on oxygen to help her straightaway and might have given her something too so that she didn't get distressed and that is something to be thankful for.

Of course, everyone will be hoping that it doesn't come to that but I know you have to prepare yourself ... if you do have to say goodbye then at least you know she has been monitored constantly by the vet and the staff at the surgery ... she's not been on her own. I know it sounds so little, but it means a lot to think she has had people with her, constantly watching her.

If it's a case of her coming home and needing help to go to the loo, tell your vet you are okay to do that ... some vets automatically think owners wouldn't be up for it ...

I know you will be in total shock .. first from the accident, then this setback ... I wish I could do something or say something really "good" that would help you ... but I just haven't the words ... all I can say is whatever decision is made, if you put your little girl first then you will make the best decision for her ... it might be that there is a chance that she can pull through and be okay, in which case, grab it!!

But, if she isn't responding well and the vet thinks the breathing problems may get worse or continue then yes, it could be that time ... hopefully it isn't but your vet will go over all the options open to you ...

Truly hoping for better news for you ....

Thank you all for your lovely comments and support, we went last night at the end of the surgery day and she was very very poorly in an oxygen tent, we were left with her whilst we waited for the vet, she raised her head and gave is a meow, we cuddled and stroked her. Unfortunately she had gone downhill so much, she had lost control of her bladder and had a blood clot on her lungs.. the kindest thing to do was to put her to sleep, the vet was very supportive and said if she was 5 years old we wouldnt be having the conversation, but with a broken pelvis and existing thyroid conditon it was the best thing to do.

A truly sad week, we're going to buy a nice tree today and plant in the garden for her. We miss her so much x

Ooh namcat im so sorry. At least now shes not in any pain or discomfort. I think the tree idea is lovely. My mum collected her cats ashes and scattered them in the garden in her favourite spot to lie in the sun. Shes got a little plaque with her name on aswell, its really nice and always makes me smile when i see it.
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire

It's always such a an awful decision to make but I'm sure it was the right one, your poor little cat isn't suffering anymore.

I'm sitting looking at my 3 year old tree that was planted for Edna Bucket ..... hope yours grows big and strong x
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D

Massive hugs nancmat - I just read your post and couldn't leave without sending you a virtual hug. So sorry to hear what's happened. Pets don't half break our hearts but we can't help loving them! Take care xx

Ah i am so sorry. How sad. At least you were with her. It could have been sadder. Mine was injured and has now gone blind and was all alone in the dark and the rain on deaths door . I had searched but could not find him. If it hadnt been for a lovely lady taking him into the vets i feel sure that he would have died. So at least you were with him , said goodbye and was not in much pain thanks to vets. Big hugs.

I am so sorry for your loss but at least she was at the vets where they could sort out any pain or discomfort immediately for her ... it's only a small blessing, but a blessing nevertheless ...

Hope you managed to get a tree for her ... *S* ... a lovely idea ... we take the memories with us through our lives but it is nice to have something to look out and see to remind us ...

Thank you all so much its lovely to have some support, some people dont understand how it feels to lose a pet and best friend. We bought her a lovely coral coloured rose tree yesterday all planted and looks lovely..

I'm going to give it some time but really would love another ginger puss at somepoint xx
