New Account Opening Problem at Barclays

I dont think they take them at the counter, you need to skip the barrier somehow. Usually you get on at an intermediate station and buy your ticket from the guard. I could hand them an electron card and it would be handed back with a "sorry, we dont take those", then, hand them the new co-op visa debit all auth card which has exactly the same details on it as the electron down to the CVV2 and they will run it through the machine and it works. If they put the electron through it would have worked too, it is just they were told years ago not to accept electron as the transactions were bouncing.0

The BIN file on all the card terminals should seperate the card types anyway, however the Chip on the card can also 'force' the machine online if it is an ICC transaction and if the machine can not go online (as in a train or plane) then it should be returnd as a declined (or on some a Not Authorised)
However some situation there can be issues with mobile semi-online terminals, the ones that use the mobile network for auth calls. The transaction should go through, but will fail if the machine cannot contact the host server.
Im not convinced that all visa 'full authorisation' cards will really force a terminal for authorisation everytime, I'm not sure how they fall into the card scheme data. I'm assuming if you was to swipe them they would go through anyway (Assuming an ICC fail)
Do they still carry the PAN of an electron card? I don't personally have one so can't check. These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0 -

It depends, look at your PIN Advice (or go online and request a reminder PIN and when it comes you'll see the type of card) and it says at the top of the PIN Advice 'full auth visa debit card' which is the full authorisation version; or it will say '£100 Chip & Pin Visa Debit' which is the CGC version.....2010 - year of the troll

They will know if you ring telephone banking - just ask have you got a full authorisation debit card? i.e. can it be authorised at offline terminals like switch or is it like solo that requires authorisation.....
To be honest the fastest way is to re-order your PIN! Takes 3 days and then you have a record - plus the PIN stays the same, its a reminder PIN!2010 - year of the troll
