Other than not working in 'offline' terminals of course :D

So on a train, plane or tesco pay-at-pump it would not be accepted. The terminal has to be a live processing one, otherwise you 'could' go overdrawn.

I've used mine at Tesco Pay-at-Pump with no problems at all.

I have seen them used on the train no problem at all.

Edit: I take we are talking about the ones with no cheque guarantee symbol on the back?
  • I think what was the Electron card can now be used on trains, planes, etc because the card reader reads it as a Connect card now rather than an Electron card?

I had similar problems when moving to Barclays, mainly from cards & overdrafts not being ordered. In the end (and a lot of phonecalls) they have been done, however I am still waiting for my wife's online banking, apparently it's been ordered 5 weeks ago, and three times since!

I have found most (but not all) of the Personal Banker really lacking knowledge, to a point that I had to tell one of them how to use Customer System properly, they kept just opening and closing the same window!
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

Remember what a CIS is? ;) If you know what it is, private message it over and I'll get someone to sort it for you.

To be fair, PBs aren't supposed to use Customer System anymore, it's all Customer Gateway - Exceed is disappearing in the next couple of months.

Right, can I just get one thing straight for those that struggle to grasp the differences between debit cards:

A full authorisation card needs authorising before you can use it. So tell me, on a train, plane and Tesco Pump where is the live system? we all know these are not live and use a data storage - to download facility which means they will accept all main cards and charge them later.

tesco pumps work differently in that they take a £1 deposit and charge later but notice it always says fill up to a maximum of £59? That is their floor limit!

You cannot use a full authorisation card in these places - accept it. It is impossible and the system itself stops it from accepting payment unless they are online terminals. The name itself spells it out - 'FULL AUTHORISATION Card'..... How can it be authorised 3000 meters in the sky? LOL

p.s. maybe you don't have a full authorisation card!

I can confirm that Tesco pay at pump does accept visa electron cards. I believe though that they take more than the £1 deposit. If I remember correctly, at one of the stores I worked in it asked solo and electron customers to take a minimum of £20 when paying at the pump to prevent authorisation problems, so it may be that its a £20 deposit for solo and electron?

I can and am confirming they do not and a simple check of your own intranet confirms this 'Tesco no longer accepts Electronic payments at their Pay@Pumps such as electron or solo'....

Go and have a read, there's a good boy....... Tesco stores do accept these cards, the pay @ Pump does not! See here: #263

You are welcome to come to Glasgow and I will show you lots of places that cannot go on-line that take full authorisation Visa Cards, including Scotrails, taxi's, certain shops that dont have up to date equipment.

You are right the card might be full auth, but if the euipment it is being used in does not know it it will treat a Visa card as a Visa card.

Ahh, now that's a valid point....... if the equipment isn't set up to recognise the difference then it would go though..... that all comes down the merchant processing and i'd have thought that this has more to do with the fact that the maestro system in the UK is in fact the old 'switch' (JCCC) system that there may be issues.....

However, you cannot use electron or solo at pay @ pumps and HSBC debit card (full auth) does not work there nor does it work on any train or plane (tried it when I went away in April at all 3 places - 3 declines and had to use my normal debit card)......

I am a regular to Glasgow and when I last went from Glasgow to Edinburgh (June) my full auth card had been replaced so can't speak for current status but it never used to work.....
